Default Need Help. Car died while driving

i was going over the bayside earlier doing 55 when it felt as though somone dropped an anchor out of my car. i was cruising as normal nothing out of a regular drive. i started to lose speed so i pulled to 4th to try to get some back. no luck. bacically did this all the way down to first gear until i came to a stop. the car died on its own as it slowed down. 55-0 in like 500 feet or so. when i shifted up my rpms never climbed above 2000. no matter my speed or gear or pedel to the floor. The car would turn over no problem but i could not get it to start. to me this seems like a fuel pump problem. i checked the fuse and reset switch and both were good. I turned the ignition on to listen for the pump and all i hear is a click. no typical "buzz" or "whirling" noise. Can anyone give me their opinion on what to check out before i tear out a fuel pump. any other suggestions. maybe i missed something. anyone else have this problem. It does seem as though i get plenty spark as well as battery voltage. (checked with voltmeter) any help will be appreciated as this is my only means of transportation and i need to get it running asap. Thank you in advance to any help and replies.
Eric

Yeah, its either out of gas or something in the fuel system has failed. Likely the pump. When I was running my car really low before changing my fuel pump I ran out a couple of times. Feels exactly like what you stated. Only thing is, I didnt try to shift around and all that. I knew it was fuel, so I put it into neutral and coasted to the nearest gas station lol.

^ i have never had any problems prior to it running low on gas. never ran out on me. i do believe its the pump i will pull it tomorrow and test it before i buy a new one.
^^ i pushed the schrader valve and got next to nothing. i turned the car over a few times to try to pressure the rails but got nothing. so i am guessing the pump is out.

Yup sounds like the pump. I dont know if it will work in your car, but I have a Walbro 255lph that I pulled out of my car if you want a cheap upgrade. I'd let it go cheaper than a new one. It worked when I pulled it out...

the newer V6 cars have a big pump assembly a typical foxbody style pump wont fit. The fuel system is a little more complex as well...
