Question about O ringed heads
I recently tore down a motor with O ringed heads , but it did not have O ringed head gaskets. It had standard head gaskets.I saw this motor run in a car about 14 or 15 passes at the track and it ran real good.If the gaskets don't matter why would these heads be O ringed? Any info would be appreciated.
The metal ring is not in the gasket but actually its in the heads. double check the heads to make sure its not there. And if its not thats ok will not hurt anything. I assume as in your title fuelie327 your a chevy guy? Fords have a weak point on cylinder head sealing. Only 4 bolts around the cylinder as chevy has 5. Luckly for Ford, head gasket design has improved a lot.

Yeah, I still am Chevy at heart, but have recently converted to Ford.Got a pretty decent fox body recently and I'm putting these heads back on the motor they came off of.There are no rings in the grooves on either head. But thanx for the info.
