just use a simple wrench and go a 1/4 turn at a time

There should be some room to trim the console where once you put it all back together you will never see where you trimmed. That should give you a little bit more room to work.
But honestly the conesole itsnt that hard to remove....only real problem is plastic that has been in the FL sun n heat for 20 years tends to be quite brittle....so use caution.
