Default so done with over seas cars

my girls hyundai has an issue with pumping gas. there is this little ?charcol? air breather canister thing that keeps cloging the lines. i still dont understand what it is for and so i dumped some out so it wont over flow no more but not sure if this is going to fix it for good. i look in the other make forum and it dont look like anyone is ever in there so if any of you have any idea what the hell this thing is and know a way to fix it let me know. what it does is when your pumping gas it causes the gas to spit up back at you just a few sec. after pumping and takes 20 minutes just to pump $10 worth of gas.

That charcoal piece you're describing sounds like the floater in the gas tank? If it's removed, wouldn't it overflow because it wouldn't know when to stop without it? I could be wrong, but I'm just throwing it out there.

it's alot worse then that though. befor i replaced one of the cloged lines last time you can just barley pull the triger on the gas pump and it backs up and would go CLUMP. then after clearing out that line it was fine again. now i got all cloged up again and i just emptied out some of the charcole in hopes that it will stay good this time. and it didnt matter what pump and what gas station, it was constent so it wasnt the gas pumps the where to strong. but that was the first thing that came to my mind though at first.

There is generally a a smaller line that runs from the filler neck to the tank again thats supposed to let the air pressure in the tank equalize. Some tanks have a trap door in the filler neck as well

Ford uses cahrcoal canisters, too. And they have the exact same problems.

The charcoal canister is for catching fuel vapors. Eveuntually, I believe it feeds them through the motor. Emissions standards galore.
