The charcoal canister is for catching fuel vapors. Eveuntually, I believe it feeds them through the motor. Emissions standards galore.

yes but it's set up alot different. ours, well at least mine is up front in the engine bay and only has 2 vacume looking line's running to it, the one i was messing with has a electric motor hooked up to it with an open port, some breather line's and i just dont know. it's working fine now again but gee's why is it that the newer cars are just getting more and more confusing with a bunch of unneeded bull?

LMAO, Let me see if I have this right... charcoal canister is full of charcoal, so you empty some of it hoping the gas will go in the filler neck faster.
Use the said match but use it a light to see if there is an obstruction in the filler neck. Let me know if you need a hand, Ill hold the light so you can get a good looksy. LMK

that electric motor is probably bad. Is the check engine light on?

no it's not on. and the only reason i empty out some of it out was becuz is was backing up into the flow line's making it not able to breath and spit up at you after 2 sec. but it all seems to be good for now again.
