And what are the prices in the countries that are members of the giant oil cartel OPEC? They pay PENNIES per gallon for their gas, while other countries pay $4-$8 per gallon. Stop buying the oil from the cartell, and become self reliant. I head that the pres is pushing for offshore drilling in the gulf now. Good. he is also opening up some of the drilling again stateside. Good. I HEARD this though, and my source may not be reliable. (my wife)

As long as we have greedy @$$holes running this country the gas prices will never go down. The oil companys run this country, not the president, they could lower it if they wanted but when the president is getting a share of the profit made hes not going to lower prices, so in the end its us middle class people who get fu**ed and nobody in govt really cares, they dont tap into the reserves or start drilling in other places cause that would lower prices of gas and they dont want that to happen

you guys crack me up with "if the rep was in power all things would be well", let's get serious about this Tony.. the money would just go to THEIR pet projects and we as the public would still be in the same boat in the long run..

drilling in alaska, off of the gulf, etc and what we would get out of it would be minimal when it comes to the cost of what gas is today.. if memory serves those combined efforts along with the shale/oil wouldn't even break the 3.50 mark combined right now.. not to mention the time it would take for those rigs to be up and producing.. there are many other factors at work here other than just volume, looking at it from a global perspective.
i'll see if I can find the article I read last week on it..

How about just getting more oil out of rigs already in use?

That is probably true my little feel good buddy. However, if that is going to happen, Id rather see some rich guys get it than worthless layabout slobs that just sponge off the general public for their livelyhood. Everybody seems to hate on the rich guys and the big corporations but after all, they are the ones who found and run the companies that give the rest of us jobs. Without them, we'd all have to be dirt farmers or try somehow to set up little mom and pop operations to try to eke out enough for survival. Everyone seems to piss and moan that they don't get a big enough piece of the pie. If you want a bigger piece of the pie, get off your ass and come up with a better idea, manufacture it, sell it and become one of the rich guys. As for me, I don't want to deal with all the hassle that that would entail. I'm perfectly happy where I am. I can get all the things I need and a lot of the extras that I want. I'd just like to keep more of the money I work hard for than give it to someone who doesn't want to support themselves. The Republicans are more likely to let me do that than the Democrats.

I'll bet the my conscience and I sleep every bit as well at night as you do. Plus, you still like my old conservative asshole self anyway.

Back when I was married my wife and I had been working at our careers for over 25 years (each), she was in the insurance industry, I was in the fire service and working a part time job as a fire instructor. Neither of us had a college degree, we just worked hard at what we did, and got good at it. For several years we made well over 130K, she would work and take care of the kids, I would work 70 hours per week.
Imagine my surprise when we discoverred we were the "rich" people that the Democrats were reffering to. Imagine our further surprise when we discoverred we were in the 30% tax bracket, yep 1 out of every 3 dollars we earned went to Uncle Sam.
Imagine how I felt when the Democrats wanted to tax us "rich" people even more. Talk about penalizing people who work while sucking up to the scumbags.
That is why I vote Republican, because we all can't be on welfare.

The tax rate should be the same for everyone. Either that, or the higher tax brackets should start MUCH, MUCH higher, say..someone making MILLIONS a year.

Same for "bonus" income. 28% is ridiculous. I used to work at a uniform distributing company, and I made $5.15/hr plus bonus. Needless to say, that bonus was equal to or more than my hourly pay. I got taxed like crazy.
