KITT was an F-Body and as such would not have been able to catch the truck. It was all done with camera angles and blue screen.

He's not actually going 145 when he pulls into the truck; he's not hitting any wind resistance.....just like if you're in a bus travelling 70 and you run to the front, you're not really running 75mph....
