If your tie rods and LCA's are not at the same angle,

AND/OR

your tie rods (from pivot to pivot) are not the exact same length as your LCA's (from pivot to pivot) then your car does indeed have bumpsteer.

However imperceptable it may be, it is there.

In fact designing a properly functioning sportscar suspension with ackerman and good camber angles, WITHOUT BUMPSTEER is nearly IMPOSSIBLE.

the way i see it, bumpsteer will always be there, you could minimize it but it will be there.

Especially if it's a macpherson strut setup.

There is a good series of articles in previous SCCs about suspension geometry.

then why don't i feel it makin a difference at all ????

wtf

what im' saying is:

while it may be a problem, i dont' feel it at all when driving my car, that is lowered more than any s13 i know of except for teddys'. and he doesn't feel a problem either.

i think its something that internet mechanics make it to be a bigger deal than it acutally is, especially on s13s

I have my d2's maxed in the rear and slightly lower in the front and i noticed what many refer to as "bumpsteer" after i dunked the shit out of it. i don't really notice it anymore and i think the fact that you're used to driving slammed s13's is the reason you are unaware of the existence of bumpsteer. I also am now rocking the SPLPARTS bumpsteer-reducing endlinks so i get none whatsoever!!

is your car really that low? i mean, you have aero and it is still on so it can't be that bad. or is it?

Greasymule, how do you like the SPL bumpsteer reducing tie rod ends?

The bumpsteer geometry trade off that is made on the S13 is that the inner pivot points for the steering linkage and the control arm are located roughly the same distance out from the center of the car. This is the best case compromise for a macpherson strut setup that can't have all of the angles and lengths equal.

The reason that bumpsteer is minimized in most coilover shod cars is that the spring rate is so high. If the LCA/steering linkage barely deflects, then the effect is minimized.

If the S13 had zero bumpsteer, you'd be able to adjust the ride height without having to get an alignment.
