Earlier tonight I was working on a hydraulic e-brake for Rock's car. I'll take some pictures tomorrow, but total it will probably be under $100 in parts and it uses the normal rear brakes.

I paid $75 for the hydraulic e-brake but new they are $100. I recently found a better unit but don't have a price on it yet.

Ok, so here's the pictures I promised:

Now for the review.

It sucks!! With that said, I haven't given up on the idea of a hydraulic e-brake.

The e-brake does work and locks the rear brakes but requires a very firm pull on the lever and the top of the handle moves about 4-6 inches, maybe a lil more. It takes way more effort than I anticipated, and definitely more effort than the ones they have in WRC. I dont know if the cylinder is the wrong size, or it needs a booster or if the ones they use in WRC are maybe solenoid driven or assisted.

The unit I used is made by a company called CNC, and it is designed as a staging brake for drag cars.

Rhys Millen has an identical unit in his GTO though, but all the rally car units I've seen use a Girling style clutch master cylinder with a bracket and a lever actuating it.

Here's some examples:

Search on google for girling cylinder, but I think Wilwood sells them.

I'm not sure what the sifnificance of a Girling style is, but they all use them. Originally it was a Lucas Girling master cylinder that was used on just about all British cars from 50's-80's I guess. Maybe the important part is that it has a threaded port for the inlet so it can handle pressurized input instead of the simple snap-in type made for a reservoir.

can you show me how you hooked up the brake lines to the stock one, so I can figure out how to make my own, I cant find any kits online but once I figure out how to use my stock lines it should be pretty easy to do.
