Damn, you guys went crazy with this!!

Well after meeting with Donna today, all I need to do is arrange a bit of a demo in the near future to show them what its all about and to prove that we can drift w/o tearing up the asphalt. It's had 3 months now to cure since laid down so it should be fine. I also explained that we forbid standing burnouts or keeping the tires roasted through a spinout.

There is an Import drag race in december and it would seem that Moroso is interested in adding some drifting to the show. There is also a NOPI event in 2 weeks and pending what we arrange with Donna, it might just be a great time to also do a lil expo while testing the track DG style.

The meeting was very positive, and while I couldn't get out on track since it was in use, I did manage to get some good pics for you all.

Here you go:

From turn 1 looking north toward turn 5, this is approximately 30ft wide and the track only narrows in a few places. I think this place will be all 2nd gear except turn9

Turns 3 and 4, turn3 is actually part of a 1/4midget oval track.

Turns 5 and 7

Turns 5, 6 and 7, nice set of switchbacks..

Turn6.

Turns 5 and 7 again.

Turns 6 and 8.

Ooh looky how wide. Turns 10 and 9 seen from turn1

Turn12

Turns 5 thru 9 looking across the track.

There's that quarter-midget oval.

Turn3 of Moroso's roadcourse, the back section gets kinda twisty, but soo narrow, the Kart track is actually wider than a lot of the roadcourse.

I'll keep everyone posted on when were going to test drift and how it turns out. I'll try my damnedest for the NOPI weekend in 2 weeks time. Either way, I think DG will definitely be at the event, if only with a small tent even.

Cheers,
Sean

we wont be able to use the kart track for another 6 months and its $4500 for a day. it takes about a year to fully cure the asphalt. if you look close enough it already has patch jobs. not good. if we were to use the kart track the best time would be in the winter when its cold so it doesnt tear the track up. when its hot enough like about 85* and up you can actually push your thumb into the asphalt and leave an indent.

this skid pad would be a cheaper venue at about a quarter of the cost of the kart track meaning entrance fees are going to be a lot cheaper. unless we could get an endorsement through nopi or something.

Buck,

Karts tear up the kart track 10x more than drifting on street tires does.

the karts and cars more or less move the pavement around making dips and bumps, but cars have the greater chance of pulling up the asphalt. then you have the rain that gets under the soft asphalt and ruins everything. the asphalt is going to get tore up regardless but more so in the summer than the winter.

from the looks of the pictures they didnt get very good asphalt. thats the same problem we are having with our track.

Im not driving to Jupiter for a skid pad. Come on...

The track looks nice, but theres always issues with insurance. And to be honest...$250.00 is alot.

$250 for two days on a skid pad with use of sprinklers. would you rather be in california paying $350 for a day? SPJC was basically just a skid pad. if the kart track were to happen then it would be about $250 for one day since it would cost about $6000+ depending on spectators and sponsorships.

But do they understand and accept the track rental for a drift event?
