My recommendation is that you seriously research what goes into building cars that roadrace. Like go read some books and try to understand all the concepts behind why parts are added instead of focusing on what parts to add first. Any mods done to grip roadracing cars are usually done to drift cars, but just keep in mind the D1 rules do not allow extreme modifications (ie tube chassis). So hit up the library, amazon books, or even google and start searching and researching. Nobody is going to hand you all the info, you will have to find it on your own. Then once you understand all the concepts of building a grip roadrace car, get yourself a copy of the D1 rules and regulations off www.d1gp.com and build your car to those regulations. Find all the aftermarket support for your make / model car that you can and start ordering parts. Hardcore car builders will fabricate a lot of their stuff (rollcage for example), but not everyone has the skills to do that, so the aftermarket might be your best bet.

I would highly recommend you use another car to learn how to drift unless you practice in low risk situations (like cones in a parking lot). If you're gonna be drifting by solid objects, there is a high probability that you will crash (everyone does while learning) and it would suck to smash up your highly modded car. So maybe while building the car go pick up a beater and get some seat time.
