Lifters for the 5.7 MDSTook the failing EngineTech lifters out of my car. One ended up bending a pushrod rest were making noise.

Looking for new sets but appears there are either none left in the world, rest are made by engine tech, or people want 1k+ for them.

That being said, will Non-MDS lifters work on a stock MDS cam?

Before anyone starts saying why don't you just put another cam in it... Aftermarket cams cost even more money, then you need the phase limiter, then you def need a tuner. I really rather have it stock as stock HP fine for me but if I can expedite repairs by going non-mds I will, long as it does not require putting another cam in cause by then I could just get a whole different engine.

Best way to do this would be to find some inexpensive Non-MDS lifters and get the MDS shut off with a tuner. This will require a custom tune and you will not have MDS anymore.

The Hellcat lifters are what a lot of folks are going to but you can find cheaper OEM ones online. No need to change the Cam but if you are planning to keep the car it would be a nice upgrade. Especially if you have the Heads off, not a difficult job.

Sean at Hemifever.com is about the cheapest and one of the best out there IMO. Ask about the tuner/tune combo but call him on the phone and tell him that you are interested in the MDS delete part of the tuning.

Correct. I have a DiabloSport Tuner (i2 InTune). The Advanced Tune menu has a Modify Parameters menu that allows you to change various settings ... disable MDS is one of them.

Looks like I am going to be going with the hellcat lifters, and a Hemifever tune. I typically like to keep stock and personally don't hate MDS but if I am going to drop some coin might as well get few extra ponies out of it.

Installed the hellcat lifters. Finally no tapping.

Drives like before, however idle seems rough but in a smooth consistent way. Was told this may be due to the different lobes on the mds cam cylinders and that a tuner should help fix it.

Talked to my tuner (Mike at OST) yesterday trying to dial in my Daytona. I mentioned the problem you had and asked what was done when I had the MDS delete installed years ago with a cam. The MDS cam like you have found out has different lobes than the non-mds cam. The MDS should be deleted mechanically and also with the tuner. Reason being the fuel trims will change when the computer tries to switch.

If you have a rough idle you can raise the idle 100 rpms and that will normally give you a smoother idle and also prevent codes from popping up.

Question, Does a tuner just turn off MDS, or does it also delete the diagnostic tests that sense the MDS Solonoids?
If it just turns them off, you would get a check engine if you remove the electronic parts?

MDS delete is different than MDS disable(which most tuners do) So a Custom tune may be needed if the lifters are replaced and the solonoids remove and plugged.
Im pretty sure Diablo just turns them off, not deleting the tests.

Anyone know for sure, someone thats done it.

The onboard diagnostics only check the MDS system when MDS is either transitioning from 4 to 8 cylinders or transitioning from 8 to 4 cylinders. If MDS is disabled the MDS system never transitions from 8 cylinders and the diagnostics are never executed.
