Spirit is fux0red

i finally got ambition to dig into the spirit today. Pulled the first valve spring off #1 cyl. Let the air out of the cylinder and wiggled the valve. Hmm... its got some wobble. Cant be good. Called a few friends and I guess 1-2 thousands is ok. They arent supposed to be tight. I check another head I have here and its about the same. Might be fine, might be bad. I dont know for sure. Ok, figure i'll do the guide seals since ive already started, then see what happens with the valve guide slop. I work my way along until i get to intake #2. I lift the spring off and see the guide seal halfway up the valve.. (??!!??!!) That aint good! WTF? It wasnt like that when i swapped springs on it before. And i couldnt have bumped it with the spring and slid it up while taking the spring off... those seals require a little pulling and twisting to get off! they dont just slide off! And even if i did slide it off with the spring, it sure wasnt on good!
Hmm.. i continue. I check the guide and put on a new seal. Keep moving across #3. I get to intake #4 (where the broke spring was) and DOH! Seal is off of the guide too! Not slid as far up the valve as #2, but still off! (??!!??!!) WTF again? I check that one over and put on a new seal. Yank the spring on #4 exhaust (last one).. this time i inspect it close before pulling the seal. (the rest i just pulled, they werent obviously wrong). I look at the seal and it seems to be on, but the bottom of it isnt touching the head surface. I go to take it off, and it IS on there.. i had to work with it to get it off like the others, but yet it wasnt touching the head. Like it was on, but it was too short or something. In any case, it wasnt right.
So in conclusion, my findings show 2.5 valve guides were fux0red. Yep, im sure that would make a nice leaky!
Did this fix it? I do not know yet. As i was putting the valve cover back on, i saw the sky becoming REAL dark with that cold front thats on the way. Yep, i guess its on time! I quickly finish up the engine. As i am tightening the timing belt tensioner, i look at the sky and see the storm is upon me. I haul ass cleaning up the tools. About 30 min later it's all nasty out. I didnt drive it the rest of the night b/c i wanted to see exactly what was coming out the pipe and its hard to in the rain and dark. Tomorrow I will use it for running my errands and will post the results.
