When the HOM button is pressed, the spark advance is increased to take advantage of the higher octane. If you do not press the button or you do not have the button, nothing will happen. In fact, higher octane fuel usually have a lower energy content than lower octane fuels. This means that unless there is an increase in spark advance, high octane fuel will be produce slightly less power.

By looking at some timeslips.. I was just assuming but it may very well not matter. I've seen the same guy run the same 60ft time on both slips but a better reaction time was the only difference and he ran a tad bit quicker. Does anyone actually know or know why the time may have been quicker?
I think bracket racing counts reaction time. Usually timer starts when you trip the light.
