who had the fastest SRT$ at TRack day ??
do NOT put race gas is your stock srt-4,your asking for problems...i ran a 13.8 100% stock, with a spare,3/4 tank of gas...being able to drive the car is 85% of its issue being fast...ive seen MANY BPU upgrading srt-4's still in the 14's,while similiar setups would net high 12's-low 13's....if you cant nail your 60' ft and somewhat maintain traction it wont never see the "stock" 13.8 your looking for
My mods--3 inch downpipe,wga @ 18lbs,homemade intake...
1/4 times(ran at 13-14lbs)
2.0 60 ft'
13.8@104mph...thats on less/equal to stock boost levels

Why do you say not to use race gas in a stock SRT-4? Maybe i don't understand correctly what your talking about. You can run race gas in a Geo Metro. Extra octane is not going to do any harm. It may not help as much as a modified car, i understand that, but it will not harm a car. I agree i need more wheel time at the strip with this car. I never had such a hard time launching my 99 sport. I was getting 2.2, 2.4 60' on the stock tires without deflating them.

The reason I said not to use it is because it will be a waste of your money. If you really feel like burning though some extra cash I'm always open to donations to my personal fund.
The higher octane rating from race gas will not help you if your car doesn't need it. If you're not detonating or pinging from high compression or raised boost levels then you don't need it.
Higher octane ratings mean slower, more controlled burns. That's why you might actually run slower with a higher octane fuel then you need. You'll at least be wasting your money.

More on octane ratings and what they mean to you...
Octane is the measure of antiknock characteristics of gasoline. The number you see on the pumps at a gas station are an average of two types of testing, Reaseach octane rating and Motor octane rating. Tests are performed on a test engine and both numbers are averaged together, (R+M)/2, to give a real world rating(octane rating on the pump) of how the fuel will perform on the road.
For best performane and money conservation, use the lowest octane rated fuel that will prevent knocking and pinging.

This is true, it's something I just learned last year. The higher the octane the slower it burns. I was still under the assumption that the more octane the better
NOT! After some of my friends explained it to me. (I still was stubborn) I tried different octanes each time I went to the track. Well...87 got me my best times! Who knew? I understand 87 for you FI guys won't work but, for us N/A stock motor guys it's what works best. I just wanted to share my experience w/ octanes

Put a small amount of 93 octane into a test tube and a small amount of 87 octane in another test tube. Light the 93 octane and you should see a slow, controlled flame travel the length of the test tube. Light the 87 and you should end up with a broken test tube.
As always, wear your safety glasses and use the proper safety precautions.
