Looking at the pictures of the trunk bar, I think you should gusset the bracket where it actually bolts to the car. A right angle bracket dosnt support much load they way you are using it.

Basicly Triangulate this bracket so it can take the intended loads better. A right angle bracket isnt very strong for what you are using it for. It needs some backing to really give it strength
