Ditto what John said.
Legally the debt belonged to both of you equally

IF she cheated on you and if she stole from John, then I say thats Karma fucking you back for all the bullshit. I wouldnt pay a dime to anyone who fucked with someone behind my back, least of all if she stole from my friends. But I guess im immature that way.

Of course, when you start adding up all the other misery she put you through, and stealing from John, etc... hell add in the times she made you buy her cigarettes or fill up her gas tank, or all the times she made you pay for dinner when you really didn't want to, then it turns out she owes you money, even better!

Have you heard anything back after that email Taylor?

Not to mention, how long ago was the last payment made on the account? Florida has a 4 year SOL on open debts.

Good point on the SOL, I'll bet it was pretty close to the cutoff date as well. Am I correct for thinking that the debt would dissapear but there would still be a scar on your credit record?

Correct, in Florida, just because the debt is SOL it does not mean it does not exist. It simply means they have no legal means to collect the debt. It would remain on your report unless you follow Johns advice above. I will tell you - I have had very good success with disputing items in my credit files. If you have the patience, you can get a lot done.
