The real problem is that you are seeing how english is taught in the schools today. Welcome to the current Florida public education. Florida used to be in the top 20 states... now we are fighting for the last spot.

It isn't schooling, it isn't the teachers, it is the kids/students and their parents who are the problem. My mother (who is a 6th grade Literature teacher) has to fight with parents constantly who think something is "unfair" or feel a bad grade deserves a second chance. It is the parents fault for their children being stupid. These kids don't learn the consequences of not studying or applying themselves in school.
What is wrong with society is people expect things to be handed to them on a silver plate. Education isn't just in the hands of the teacher, it is the student who decides what to do with the information presented to him or her.
