Default Apartment Issues

Hopefully someone can direct me as to what we can do about this problem:

Jenny goes over to our "new" apartment over in Hyde Park to wait for the Orkin guy to show up. She turns on the heat to warm the place up a bit, and now the entire apartment reeks of weed. Evidently the previous tennants were pot heads...the burning incence when we were touring the place should have tipped us off.

So if this smell doesn't go away, how do we get rid of it?

Febreeze and cleaning. Also paint. That crap soaks into the paint on the walls (as do most scents).

The formerly white venetian blinds are now a dingy yellow. Evidently a tennant in the past was a heavy smoker. The paint is nasty and looks to have about a million layers throughout the house. I bet if you stripped it down to the plaster, we'd gain an extra 100 sqft.

I want to repaint the entire downstairs, but I just can't bring myself to wasting money on a property that isn't mine. We'll see how we can stand it within the next few months. If the paint is absolutely unbearable, I may call upon the "dawgs" to help me with some interior painting.

R&R (remove and replace) anything that is absorbant to smoke/odors. Change the air filters, clean the vents and shampoo the carpets (if applicable). We had to repaint a room because of a pet smell and it was fine and dandy after that.

Checked the air filter...definately the epitome of ghetto rigged. This place use to have window units back in the day, and was later converted to central air. They turned the upstairs closet into the air handler. The closet is now "sealed" with a rubber "gasket" and a "hole" was "cut" into the "door" with some sort of "saw" for air induction. Pretty shitty job, looks like a blind man attacked the door with an axe.

We think maybe these assholes just didn't use the A/C or heat before we moved in. All the smoke/stank just accumulated in the ducts and was blown out when she turned it on. I haven't been back to the apt for a week...I'm sure the sweet smells of pesticide drowned out any evidence of the whacky tobackey.

damn, they must have been having some serious smoking parties in that bitch. i smoked everyday for 2 years and my house never smells like weed. i used to burn incents when i smoked so maybe that covered it up. but it still doesnt smell. you might want to check in the air vent, maybe they hid their stash in their or something. and like everyone else said, change the air filters.
