UPDATE:
Roaches are gone. Smell seems to be gone, but I didn't feel like turning on the heat for the short time period I was there. I may just open the windows then crank the heat for a few hours before we put any furniture in the joint. The apartment still smells like dingy, stale ass though. I think I'll put one of those 99-cent pine tree air fresheners in the filter and see what happens. It has hardwood floors, so Febreeze would be pointless.
Next project...installing a dead bolt on the back door. Probably hire a locksmith to do the job since I have the upmost confidence in myself to screw up the installation. Can anyone recommend a locksmith who could install the deadbolt and match the lock to my front door key for not a whole lot of dinero?

You're just supposed to talk up whatever you do know as if you're a salesman for it. i.e. I drive a Supra and a Corolla therefore 2JZ is the greatest and so is the 4A and I don't care about anything else because it's all crap since I don't have it. Those 99 cent air fresheners are horrid. If you have hardwood floors then the floors are ok, just mop them with some industrial cleaner. It's all in the walls and the ceiling. Strip a few layers of paint and repaint the bitch. It will take you like 1 day if the apartment is empty.
