Bmw E60 reliability
Hey guys! Just trying to see how reliable these cars are. Thinking about purchasing an 04-07 525I 530I 545I. What are the pros and cons? Looking for an automatic. Is that anything to look for? I have read they do have oil leak problems from bad hoses
Id check the forums

Check the E60 sections. I dont know enough about the newer cars. I can tell you about E34 and E39s.. but thats it.
Maybe Lutz , C and C.. some of the Shops can chime in.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS HOW MUCH CAN YOU AFFORD TO SPEND WHEN IT BREAKS? BEEMERS DO HAVE SOME OIL LEAK ISSUES , AND THEY COST A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX. I JUST FINISHED A TIMING COVER ON AN 06 750 LI. iT WAS ABOUT 1200 DOLLARS . I HATE WHEN SOMEONE DRIVING A CAR LIKE THAT COMPLAINS ABOUT THE COST OF REPAIRS.

why did a timing chain cover gasket cost 1200? or do you work at a shop? cause they all jack shit up.
like is the gasket 200$ or something, or do you have to replace the whole cover that you can only get at bmw?
i know nothing about these cars, just asking because i see some good deals on older 95ish 318s that would make a nice daily for my girl.

caps lock off.....
no oil leak problems, when the hoses are bad every car leaks oil, simple as that.
check if all the ECUs have actual softwares, if not go an get them upgraded at your BMW dealer.
E60s sometimes have electronical problems, different ones, can't name them all.
some occur, some don't. good luck with that
since you guys don't have to pay very much for gas you should go for the 530 even though the 525 makes a nice DD as well.
even here in Germany most 5series are automatics, I've driven one 525 Diesel with stick shift once and it was terrible, turned it in for a brand new 530 Diesel with the new automatic gearbox and it drove like a dream (and I usually refuse to drive automatic cars)

sorry about the caps. The timing cover cost so much because the engine has to come out of the car. It calls for 30 hours of labor . In my opinion , if some one is getting rid of a BMW or Mercedes , it's usually for a reason. Most of the time its because they let something go so long that there are a bunch of other problems. Most repairs on European cars are very expensive. I work on BMW's and Mercedes all the time , an average of 3 or 4 a week , along with every other make and model , I hate people who own European cars and then whine about the cost of maintanence and repairs
The E60 is a reliable car. Of course your going to have your normal problems as you would with any car, just be prepaired to spend some money.
Come out of the car? Ive seen numerous timing covers on this exact car put on with the engine in the car.
