So I went out and bought a engine for my 87 Chevy from a guy on craigslist. He tells me it runs great and might be a reman or rebuilt. I knew it was a used engine but needed a fast replacememnt for my truck to get it on the road. The engine in the truck has a spun rod bearing. Long story short I break this engine down to put new gaskets in it and find a spun bearing in this one too. He has ignored me for a week and answered me lastnite with this

I told him its going to cost me 1200$ to rebuild it with machine work and new parts.

I paid 400$ for it... But at this rate should have just pulled the one from my truck and rebuilt that one...

 

How much did you pay for the engine? If it is so bad that you can't fix it yourself and need to have it professionally done. it might be better to just eat the cost and start over. You are super handy. I'm sure you will find a good use for it in the long run.

That sucks man, should have at least pulled the valve covers and oil pan before you bought it. This is what is bad about buying used motors from random people.

 

I thought about this but you should have seen the engine hoist it was sitting on, I wanted nothing to do with climbing around the engine. The stand wanted to flip over when we were putting the engine in the back of my buddies truck. He swore up and down as I must have asked him 3-4 times about how it runs and assured me it was fine. He was asking 500$ but offered 400$ and he didnt even skip a beat on the price just said ok! I sent him these same pics but he must think I have a bunch of crap ass small blocks laying around and im scamming people.

Kenny im seriously thinking about taking it to claims court just for the principal that hes a 19yr old punk who ripped someone off and then acts like im trying to rip him off... I asked for him to paypal me back 200$ which is half the money so in the end I will get 193$ back from them but its the honesty principal. Kids these days dont give 2 shits about anything.

 

dude, how did that oil look coming out of that hunk of shit? he probably ran it open headers, in a mudd truck changed the oil every 6-8k and never heard how it ran because of the horrid exhaust and gummed up oil.

 

He drained the oil but left about 1/4 quart in it, Smelled horrible and was very thick. When I pulled in the intake it had chunks of carbon the size of Charcoal in there, Oil pump screen was 1/2 clogged with that shit and theres a ton of it in the bottom of the oil pan.

 

Yeah he probably did exactly what i said, that's why i quit buying small block chevy's when I used to part out cars. I'd take him to small claims only way he'll learn about selling shit parts.
