Default Having a motorcycle in condo is not allowed, read!

Reposted from General Car Chat
So here is the story in short-

My condo association does not allow motorcycles or any two wheeled vehicle with a motor on the premises, why...I don't know. Yes it seems dumb and such but I'm having to deal with it by storing my bike at a storage unit. I recently decided, after having my bike on property for like 3 hours and someone taking a picture and sending it to the HOA that enough is enough. The letter I received was easy with no fine or anything just a compliance to remove the bike, but regardless, it seems unjust to not allow motorcycles on the property, especially in these economic times.

I spoke with one of the ladies who deals with all this stuff and she recommended I write a letter to the board of directors to allow me to bring it on the property and keep it over night in some situations. I'm not trying to work on it or raise hell or anything, just bring it in and out.

Has anyone else faced such issues, whether it be in an apartment complex or other situation? If so how did you deal with it? Any input or help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Cliff

hey where are you located? Im in port richey and I just had to deal with this same shit. but im moving out friday. The president of the Condo came to my door and told me it was not to be there, So I told her we're moving anyways. it'll be gone friday.

She had some other lil old lady with her and the old lady was like "You cant leave it here" So i say to her flat out. "Nooooo Shitttt, im not gonna leave it here so u guys can tow it, It runs and drives...i take it to work everyday. If my bike is towed before friday i will personally hold you responsible for the motorcycle recovery fee's." The president of the condo was like well as long as you dont hold me responsible and laughed. I told her not to worry it'll be dealt with very soon. And she went on her way.

I brought my bike inside the day the association decided to come inside. I got a letter, and I told them that I didn't feel safe living there because of the lack of security (lighting), and if they had a problem with it I'd go to the news paper. Never heard a word back !

Yeah I was gonna say go to the news. Let me sleuth around but I recently saw two things on the news regarding HOAs. The first one was about an American flag. The second one was about a truck (regular passenger light duty type truck) and it ended up going to court and the guy won and then everyone else in the HOA had to pay his court costs, etc. which came out to like $300 a person. Sweet justice for them bitching about his F150 being parked in his driveway.

Why buy into a neighborhood that has these stupid rules?

I don't understand why you would not be able to bring a motorcycle onto a propery either, but had to turn down living in an apartment complex I really liked once upon a time because they had this exact rule. When I asked for a justification, they said it was to prevent disturbances caused by the loud noise of motorcycles. I asked why they banned all motorcycles, instead of just mandating a certain noise level (some bikes are not loud or can be made to be with the right exhaust and some cars/trucks are louder than bikes) and they said it was too hard to enforce unless it was a total ban. Needless to say, I decided to live somewhere more motorcycle friendly.

I think all you can really do is petition the HOA to relax their motorcycle policy or to grant you an exemption. If they don't budge, all you can do is move somewhere that does not have a HOA controlling what you do on your private property.

Valid points by some, thank you.

I didn't necessarily know what I was getting into, it's my first place and my parents kind of coaxed me into it. I hate it here, but I can't sell it because of the market and stuff, but by any means, I would love to.

fight them, its a legal motor vehicle aith the same operations of a car or light truck. ...personal use not commercial. there probally mostly worried about niose...my girlfriend had to keep her bike at my house because she lived in a condo. then we all met up in her parking lot (4 bikes plus hers) and she lived next to the president. yeah her mom got a leter no that one...i could never handle that i got my camaro cheap because it was his last day before a fine or something in the kids neighborhood because it sat too long....i love my house own, no "deed restrictions, boat one side car on other, 2 bikes/quad in garage and 3 cars out front and never once heard a word about it
