Default opinions..

basically im going to be getting my first bike pretty soon(planning to only spend around 2000 or so on it..

just lookin for opinions on what i should be lookin for in this price range..definitely sport bike but what kind brands to stay away from etc...

i dont need you to do all my research for me..i plan to do all that myself but if u have some info stored in that head of yours like ie (stay away from 1997gsxr's cause their trannys go out) or something along those lines id appreciate it..

ill still do more research like said just would like help narrowing it down..theres really a lot of choices even in this price range that ive seen

another thing is mileage..whats considered high mileage for a bike??..i know they dont usually get driven near as much as cars but i dont see why they couldnt last a really long time if taken care of..so just curious on that..

any info would be appreciated..thanks a bunch

Crotch rockets don't last because A) Their riders abuse them and B) They rev way, way, way high. Revving kills motors. Depending on the bike, 40-60k and you're just buying a two-wheeled problem with crotch rockets.

Stay away from stretched and slammed bikes because they're fucking retarded. Stay away from anything one liter or over because chances are you're going to hurt yourself. Stay away from bikes who's riders seem like squids, track rats, or stunters because the bike has already been beat to shit.

DO get something that you can comfortably sit on, even if you have to lower it an inch or two. DO tell people who say, "Oh, you won't have 'fun' with a 250 or a 600, etc." to go fuck themselves. DO buy your gear before you take your bike out. DO get your endorsement before you take your bike out on the main roads.

Oh, and I like Yamahas and dislike Hondas because of my own experiences with them. Although you can substitute Yamaha and Honda for absolutely every brand of sportbike and someone will come in here saying the same thing about them.

mileage isn't a big deal if the oil is changed, r*p*m doesn't kill sport bikes, the lack of maintenance does.

keep the motor small and you will have more fun and get in less trouble.

for real? i can't fucking type r.p.m without it changing it to rshared_pm. what in the motherfuckinghellisgoingonwithTR these days. you have got to be fucking kidding me.

hey new mod, find out how i bitch out about this garbage. for real i need to shared_pm someone

Cars last, what, 200k without needing a rebore.

They spin up to ~6-7k RPMs.

Bikes spin to 16k+.

That means that the bikes are scraping the compression rings agains the cylinder walls over twice as much as cars. There is no more basic wear and tear on a motor than the metal(alloy?) ring scraping the cylinder wall. Revving kills motors. So do other factors, but when you get right down to it, more revving means more movement which means a shorter lifespan.

Sure, things like stroke make a lot of difference, but you're still causing parts to move even if you've got a lil tiny stroke like sportbikes do.

A pussy? The only thing a bigger motor is going to do is put you in a straight line faster, which most of those douches on the big bikes can't handle anyhow (resulting in the stereotypical stretching and slamming). I guarentee most of these guys on here who own the big bikes couldn't ride a 250 to its full potental in the twisties. Read up on 'the pace', its stickied. One of the best sensible articles I've read in this forum. Don't let anyone ever talk down to you because your motor is smaller....Unless you decide to become a fag and buy a cruiser I mean.

dude, bikes are on a different level than we are used to in the car world. did you know most new high end bike motors have alum cly walls? yes, no steel sleeves in the alum blocks anymore. they just don't need it. and when you have the head off and tranny apart, they spin over by hand like they have no rings and roller bearing. its sick.

so yeah, more rshared_pm means the pistons go up and down more often, but its really a none issue. no bike i've every heard of has needed a rebuild because of worn out rings. in fact you can't even get a newer bike cyl bored local because its alum. gotta send it off. or atleast you did a few years ago when i was working with a buddy that built a turbo zx10 and melted a piston. oddly enough the cly didn't need any work even thou the piston looked worse than my car's did when i melted it on n2o. my block did need cleaned up.

its a wired world in bike land.

yeah, my fault, i had already moved offtopic and was talking to bamf.

you should just buy whatever runs good and looks ok to you for your 2k. i have no better advice for you.

i will say if your older you can start on a big bike. my first bike was a 1000, that i added a spray kit too and then rebuild to a 1040. so its doable. but if your under 30, buy a scooter
