Rider Down - RIP
Looks like an older guy did a superman off I-275 last night. Anyone know more information about why he lost control in the first place? I doubt he was doing 150mph or trying to wheelie or whatever everyone like to say causes these types of crashes. Here is the article:
TAMPA - A motorcycle crash on Interstate 275 near downtown Tampa on Sunday night killed the driver and critically injured a passenger, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Gregory L. Lewis, 55, of Mansfield, Ohio, was driving northbound on I-275 in the outside lane approaching the downtown Tampa exit when he veered across the center and inside lanes of I-275 and sideswiped the inside lane concrete barrier wall, troopers said. The crash happened at 8:15 p.m.
The impact threw Lewis and his passenger, 52-year-old Bonnie Lewis, also of Mansfield, over the wall. They plunged 41 feet and landed on the grass shoulder of Green Street, troopers said.
Gregory Lewis died at the scene. Bonnie Lewis was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition. She was in surgery early this morning, a Florida Highway Patrol duty officer said.
Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet, troopers said.
RIP to the rider and best wishes for the passenger. Helmets would have been a good idea.
