Brandon: I wasn't exactly waiting around, I just freaking got my permit like 2 months ago. Just to tell you how crunched I am for time to do things like this, tomorrow's my birthday and I JUST got the opportunity to go down to the DMV and renew my registration on 2 cars. For some strange reason, the DMV is open exactly when I work, in fact I work many more hours than that. I was HOPING when I was down there, I could just take the freaking test.

wsideshow: Any more details on this? Any chance they're going to be full up?

Before July 1, you could apply for a permit, which lasts 90 days and renew it up to 6 times. Then you could take the skills/written exam whenever you're comfortable.

I applied for my permit back in April, I do not get the opportunity to renew because of the new law so they're forcing people like me into a 'make it or break it' situation. I've been riding every day, very comfortable on my bike, but yea, I'm fairly new and could use more time before taking the test.

I really don't have the time and money to pay for the full 2-day course, I'm sure I'll learn some things and possibly get to test out my ability to run over/avoid stuff, but IMO, you can't learn to ride a bike in an afternoon. Most of what I learn is staying out of people's blindspots and not getting cut off in an intersection.

I'm sure the course is just wonderful for all the motorcycle community, and I'll bet this new law is freaking nice for the schools charging $$$, they've just doubled their customer base. The problem is, it's SUUURRREEEE nice to have the option, you know being over 21 and all.

That's what I'm trying to do, my problem is I have 2 days left to do so and I need to find a place that isn't all full up.

Well, prior to July 1, I guess you can, and I'm hoping that's what I can do. I'd imagine they will test my balance, control of the bike, probably go around a few tight corners, slalom, then make sure I can stop in under Xft. The hardest part is probably remembering to bring the right gear.
