Default From a bikers point of view

how many bikers does it take to hear our side of the story?.... i agree that riding 140+mph is dangerous, and if the biker gets into a crash with a car its easy to point the finger at the bikers and say we were going too fast.
when are the other parties involved going to take thier share of the blame? yeah the bike was hauling ass, but if you cant judge how fast its coming dont pull out!

How many times do cars make hood ornaments of bikers who aren't pushing mach1?

they want to stiffen penalties for us driving wrecklessly, and why not stiffen the penalties for failing to yeild to traffic. What else does the bike community have to do? the bikes have running lights, bright colors, and are reasonablly loud.....and people still cant see us? they didnt see us because they didnt look, and thats not our fault but thats part of the territory.

i'm not saying i'm innocent and i ride perfectly but i dont think our voice in the big scheme of things will ever get heard.
:i had to get this off my chest:

actually, in general (especially if you've never ridden a bike before) it's very hard to judge the speed that someone is coming at you. it's easier for us because we can tell the signs, you can hear the bike and how fast it's going, what gear it's in and you KNOW that logically a bike is normally going to go faster. So for us it seems simple, but for most people on the road, they just don't realize any of it. So it's OUR job to ASSUME that nobody can see us.

That's how I ride, normally when I'm in traffic, I'm concentrated on the person in front of me, behind me, and next to me. I sit there and think of every possible "gone wrong" scenerio and what I could do to escape it. Basically I try to predict what someone is going to do. I always assume that person waiting to pull out is going to pull out right in front of me. And it works, I'm usually prepared when it happens. And it does happen. OFTEN.

I think when we're required to take that 4 or 5 hour course before we can get our driving permits, they should add some motorcycle section in there...just so people will be more aware of us.

everyone hauls ass.. but there's a right time and place for it.. in the middle of traffic is NOT one of them.. Cars and bike's should have more repspect on when they feel like doing this.. That's how biker's can get blamed alot.. you don't see to many cars flying between others..

it is a shame all bike's get stereo typical rider's.. but it's the one's that ride and drive like dumb asses that make everyone look bad.. then you have a terrible accident like the one that happened the other day.. and it makes the rider look at fault.. even though the suv was making a Uturn into the rider's path..

sad story for both people and their families..

everyone just becareful.. and if you want to F around.. do it on an empty road..

I just hold myself accountable for my actions...

I don't need the village to think for me... I know right from wrong.

There is a time and a place for everything... i like to go 180 on my bike, im not going to lie, but it will be a cold day in hell when you see me doing it on us19 though traffic. thats the type of shit you do on 275 or a bridge in the middle of the night , and only passing someone if you have atleast 1 or lanes inbetween you.

Ride defencive, till its time to be aggressive (AKA riding with your buds over some lone bridge or long highway.)

Being an ideot gets you killed real quick.

LIke the other guy said. People cant judge speed that well. All they have to compare it to is other people who are DOING THE SPEED LIMIT. Even the SUV thing the other day - person glances up, sees bike, quickly judges distance, then turns. They don't look up, expecting that the bike is doing over 100, count seconds, try to guess how long they have to make the turn...blah blah.

Just remember, it's bikes in a car world. You guys have a lot more to lose than people driving in cars, so watch out for yourselves and claim responsibility for any mistakes.
