Default Service Questions

I am asking everyone that I know about this. So now its your turn.

When ever you take your bike to the dealership for service, what are the top 5 reasons you don't like to go in the first place. I am trying to get our service dept more business. To be able to get this shop set up right, I need to know what people don't like about them. Then use that to work on. So please post up.

Hm
ive had these problems before.
You tell them you know it needs something and they come back and tell you anyways.
uhm...you need friendly people behind the counter.

i deal with Westcoast and the guy behind the service desk is an absolute ass...i cant stand him...i had to put down on my ticket in the computer not to give me him and for me to deal with Valeska.

Biggest thing is make sure there is people behind the counter who want to be there and hwo actually want to help...not just sell shit.

I'm normally a do it yourselfer but I bought a life time service plan for my R1 at barneys. I didn't really think it out but the place is like 30-45 minutes from where I live, plus I have to get someone to follow me in the car and bring me back. The plan was something like an extra $1,000, so I'll be damned if I'm going to not get every last service out of it, but my only complaint is having to ride that far. Other than that it's been worth it.

I dont like when they treat you like your just some asshole off the street that does not know shit about bikes.

I dont like how they pawn you off for 1 grand + sometimes for like bullshit service. you get i think 6 fucking services from westcoast when you get the plan like i have, and its only sceduled maitanice. so lets see... a service is a oil change, whoopdee. 35 bucks = oil change. 10 for filter and like 5 per quart of oil. fuck! only service thats even worth going is the damn valve ajustment and thats not untill 12,000-14,500 or something?

The tire and wheel plan. Waist of fucking money, if you are honest, you are fucked. unless before th tread getsdown you put a nail in the bitch your eating money. and its like 500 bucks.

I should have read what i was signing, but they try to squize every fucking penny out of you. Its so gay. i fucking hate stealerships. Next bike i buy , or car, i am literally going to read every fucking document top to bottom and fuck em, they may have me sit in there from open till close and they will loose busness, but i wanna know what the fuck im signing. I also like how they ask you if you want things, without telling you what it adds onto the plan.

They allways rush you though everything.

They give you the bullshit price first, then you have to poke around with questions to get the bottom line price then they say ok, but somehow allways ends up being more than you agree'ed.

Fuck dealerships... Last time i ever buy something from dealer honestly.

That actually paid off half of it self for me bought pilot power and had 3000miles on it when i got a nail in it save me $189 so far. But you do have to pay for tire and they send you a refund check but i got mine in one week.

Customer Service:
I like to be treated well, like I am with people who appreciate that I have chosen to bring my business to them.
When interacting with the service and / or sales staff, I expect them to focus on me, no distractions.... and be knowledgeable.
I want them to not be "Order Takes", but consultants (provide suggestions and options to my particular issue at hand).

Quality Work / Products:
I recognize the inherent expense to operating such a facility, so I expect there is an up-charge for services rendered.... they need to turn a profit to stay in business.
However, I also expect the price to not be grossly inflated.
My expectation is that the products will be of reasonable high quality and the vehicle will leave in better shape than it came in (no collateral damage due to service).

So for me, it's two fold: Customer Service and Quality Workmanship

If you want to lose me as a customer, allow me to perceive that you fail to put forth a genuine effort to meet me very basic expectations.

Generally, I give one strike with businesses.

Like some of these other guys, I'm a do-it-yourselfer.

I've got my valve adjustment coming up, and I'm hoping the whole deal wont take me more than a day to do in my garage... and get it right the first time.

I mount and balance my own wheels...Sure I can take it to the shop and get it done cheaper, but I doubt the shop does a good job balancing the wheel/rim...AND most importantly, I dont think the shop inspects the conditions of the bearings when they take them down.

I changed my wheel last week and found that i needed to pack my bearings with grease again. A HUGE percentage of riders out there dont even think about such fundamental maintainance. By virtue of taking it to a shop that doesnt do this, Those bearings never see grease again in their lifetime.

Cost is not an issue when it comes to a shop. I understand you guys have bills to pay. What is an issue is speed and quality. No new scratches, no broken parts...you break it. you fix it.

I dont want some punk working on my motorcycle. I want a trained professional that has done the work before.

I want my motorcycle dealer to give me the same level of professionalism as any of the other Top of the line car dealerships.

Somehow i feel you're not really going to read this. Somehow I feel I'll be able to do my own valve/shim adjustment myself. somehow I feel I wont ever need to step into a motorcycle shop for mechanical work for the rest of my life.

I'll still by riding gear from you guys though...or parts..
