That's a freakin great idea!

Have everyone sign a waiver and walk through the basics.

One of the consequences of such notions as "entitlements" is that people who have contributed nothing to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for being nice enough to grace us with their presence.”

I did top off the engine coolant... That was after the first time it over heated. I thought that would fix it so I went for a test ride and it over heated again. Then I thought something was wrong with the fan so I let it cool down, started it up and let it idle until the fan normally kicks on at 220. The fan kicked on just fine but the temp still kept climbing, that was the third over heat. Finally I noticed it was actually leaking engine coolant, so I knew the service center knocked a hose loose somewhere. At that point I took it back and they tried to screw me.

I didn't think that information was important to the point I was trying to make, which is the quickest way to lose my business is to not respect me or the money I am shelling out to get "professional" work done.

Reasons I hate taking my bike to the stealership for service....

1. the trailer-park grease monkey behind the counter... Ignorant, distracted, thinks everyone is a sucker

2. inflated labor... a chain replacement takes an experienced mechanic 15-20 min max, not an hour.

3. wait time... a customer should not have to wait around for 1-3 hours for an oil change or tires

4. waiting area with chairs & tv/magazines... car shops have them, why not bike shops? There's not enough stuff in the store to keep me busy for 1-3 hours.

5. something is usually missing, broken, or scratched when the bike is finished

I took my bike to Barney's for the first two services. neither time did they do what I'd asked (tighten the clutch lever play & nitrogen my tires) and then tried to sell me the $1362.73 mataince plan. Since then I've done all my work with freinds (some new, some old) and had way more fun meeting people and learning. I had to get ripped off before I slowed down to really enjoy my bike. Screw the dealerships, make frends & work on your own bike at your own pace.
