Btw 2 strokes are more reliable and cheap and easy to rebuild. I hear of to many problems with 4 strokes

I agree with the fact it MAKES you learn riding techniques on a two-stroke, cause when you ride a 4 stroke after coming from a 2 stroke you RIP! THEN you can discover too the MAGIC in the 4-strokes, engine braking is the shit as is being able to have the torque available and traction available NOW!

Badass bike slohatch!
well said and thank u

250cc 4 stroke is a waste of money IMO. Slow and gay is how I see it.
iim not sure WHERE you get your information, but if for one second you even think that the CRFs, YZF's, and the like are NOT on the same level playing field as their older dinosaur counterparts the CR and YZ you have got to wake up...turn on the tv or go out to a track and do a tally of how many 4 strokes you see vs how many 2 strokes...you might surprise yourself.

And without know this guys height/weight are you SURE you want to recommend him a 35hp machine over a 45 hp one?

I race at tracks I may just be BIAS towards a two stroke for that class I think the powerband is the gay in a smaller 4 stroke, also the weight and weight dist. are quite annoying in a 4 stroke 250. Now for the big daddy yzf I love that bike. Yes Im sure ill recommend a 125, hes a first timer, I was 13 when I started riding a 2 stroke 125. I am now 20 and Im 6'2" 210 lbs and my 125 does more than satisfy me. I have a kx85 rm 125 and a cr250 for offroad toys. A 2 stroke 125 or a 4 stoke 250 are perfect beginners bikes, a 250 two stroke would be to much bike IMO.

BTW! Height and Weight doesnt matter much. It's learning the bike and techniques that matter the most. Look at Bubba Sterwart, he isnt the biggest guy but he can tear up a damn track, Ricky Carmicheal isnt the biggest guy either, and travis pastrana was a lanky bastard. All of them are bad ass riders.

All I am saying is a 250 2 stroke is no joke. Not to mention a beginner could not ride it to its full potential. 125cc would satisfy him fine, I have friends that weigh the same and about the same height and they love riding theyre 125's shit Im almost that big and I have a blast on mine.

Lets throw him on a 2 stroke 500 I did that when I was younger scared the shit out of me.

i appreciate all the info you all are giving me. i stopped by motorsports of tampa bay just to sit on a few bikes. i felt a little cramped on a 125. i would mainly be using it on some trails and occasionaly on the track.my parents just picked up a 40 acre plot of land in south georgia. so needless to say i have riding spots, its just i live here in tampa.

For a first bike Id say a 450 4 stroke is the wrong way to go. They have a ton of power. also the 4 stokes have a ton of maintenance involved. You can pick a 1 clean used 250 2 stoke and ride the piss out of it until you know what you want. see alot of guys getting these bikes and ride them a few times and park them until the decide to sell them
