Default Got Pulled Over 2day...

So my buddy and I are on our way to meet up with some other friends to do the North Run... We came off of bearss onto florida when i see the cop at the light about to cross over when it was his turn, my buddy didnt... So he got it up to like 70 ( in a 45 ) and let off, well buy this time the cops light had changed and he was coming up on us... He tailed us until Sunset and 41 where he then turned his lights on... So we pull over and then another cop showed up, they both get out of there cars and walk over... They both inspect the bikes and said thank you for pulling over, im NOT gonna write u any tickets but i do wanna run your liences to make sure the bikes aren't stolen... Everything comes back clean and says stay safe and slow it down alil... So I guess what im getting at is there are SOME nice cops out there that are on our side, this time we were lucky so it just goes to show u dont always have to run to get out of a ticket...

True Story.

Good post.

good post, he probably didnt have anything on you. he probably wasnt running radar, he just wanted to see if you would run. he followed you a good while because he requested backup so that when he lights you up and you speed off his buddy is already ahead and ready to pull out in front of you.

1) I highly doubt anyone would call this a waste of time if the poster was indeed riding a stolen bike, and this stop resulted in the return of a bike to a fellow TR member who previously posted a stolen bike thread to which everyone replied "that sucks, bike thieves need to die" etc.

I don't know if the officer knew for sure that the riders were speeding, but indeed they were based on the post, which is probable cause to be pulled over. I have friends that are LEOs and you'd be surprised how many criminals are taken into jail b/c they have a blinker out or expired registration. Criminals usually disregard a multitude of laws, so pulling someone over that is violating at least one law can lead to any number of outcomes. So let's see, you break the law (speeding), you get pulled over...pretty simple if you ask me.

2) You didn't mention what things you have been hassled about, but I'm guessing that if you have a legally mounted license plate, proper eye protection, proper lighting on your bike, there really shouldn't be anything to be hassled about. Abide by the legal statutes and hopefully you don't get hassled...unless your a minority and the officer is a biggot, in which case I just hope to live to see the day when we don't have racists.

3) I don't see this as a flaw in the legal system. The officer probably was not able to get anyone on his radar, so he has nothing to go on but his judgement...in which some officers can be trained/certified to "eyeball" your estimated speed. This is probably what happened here. Next time you do 70 in a 45 and there is no police officer around you, consider yourself as "let off" because you are getting a break while breaking the law.

I've never gotten anything I didn't have coming from the law. When I do something wrong, I expect to pay the price. Regardless of the situation, I treat the officers with a lot of respect. They put up with more crap in one week then you'll likely see in a lifetime. They deserve a break sometimes too. Please think about the times you need and depend on the police before you have the urge to badmouth them. Law enforcement in theory is a great idea. You shouldn't let a few bad apples influence your entire perception of law enforcement.

Anybody ever notice the correlation between the FTP attitude and the person with said attitude's age ending in teen? Just food for thought.

I got a ticket last Friday but I deserved it. I did a little first gear power wheelie on Gunn Highway when I thought I was alone. Long story short I pulled over, was curteous to the officer, told him I knew it was wrong but it was hard not to hit it every now and then and we ended up laughing about it. Instead of risking everyone's lives running or giving him shit for doing his job I just manned up and took my $120 careless driving ticket, no big deal.

On the flip side, I have gotten multiple tickets for what I consider bullshit infractions (police fund raisers), so it goes both ways. Still, I cannot believe how many people will risk their lives to get out of a simple traffic citation. Most of the time cops are not out to screw you until you give them a reason.
