Nunyo: Not all of us in the world have the money or friends to rely on to get our bikes home or to rent cars for any amount of days. I just moved here and I don't have a lot of people I can just call on for a ride or to trailer my bike. Plus, I didn't notice the oil leak until I got off the highway and after I traveled about 30 miles with oil covered tires/rear brakes etc. I left RTM at 5:30, they close at 6. I don't see how you expected me to contact them. I worked all day today so I couldn't call them today either. Are you going to say I'm just bad mouthing them because today I didn't have an opportunity to call them?

I already stated once I talk to Tom that I will post a follow up, and like I mentioned on TSB even if they refunded my money in full I would have posted this anyways. Not only could it have cost me my life but I had to do 6 hours of work myself trying to get the bike back up to snuff. Luckily I have met a few friendly people and frank at Pure Acceleration is friendly enough to let me use his tools.

I agree with Dkutin and kawie...The post was necessary... Not to immediately discredit the shop nunyo , even though i understand the way you would have attempted to handle the situation , but to make people more aware that specialty shops are run by people and people arent perfect.... I run an Auto shop... Communication is of the up most importance in any shop...I feel that the owner of RTM needs to re evaluate his staffing and make some more stern shop guidlines... I dont feel that this thread should deter anyone from using RTM , but as it was said earlier... even though no one got hurt , they very possibly could have...Having never used RTM , i have nothing positive nor negative to say except to comment on everything thats already been said.... Use what ever shop you choose.... and dont ever say any shop is perfect... cycle springs blew a motor in one of their own employees bikes that was in for service... power sports jammed the wrong keys into a couple gsxrs getting them to start but their riders couldnt get the keys out when they got home...

RTM is closed on Mondays anyway so you didn't miss an opportunity to talk with Tom. It sucks that you've had a rough experience with them. You did what you had to do, and if I was in exactly your situation with regards to resources for handling it, I may have done the same thing. Pure Acceleration certainly seems to deserve credit for stepping up and helping you out. I don't think that you're bad mouthing RTM either. I think that you're telling the story from your point of view and I do believe that you feel like you really should inform others of your experience.

Motorcycles are inherently more dangerous than cars, and lots of little things that would just put a car on the side of the road could very well put a motorcycle rider in a ditch or worse. I know that working on my own cars and bikes, I've made worse mistakes than what RTM did with your bike. I guess maybe I'm more tolerant of mistakes than others because I've made so many of my own.

I look at the choice of going public with the situation before it's resolved as a philosophical difference of opinion. That difference is not going to be resolved on internet forums and probably not ever. That's okay, I don't expect the world to agree with me. If they did, I'd probably have to reconsider my position anyway.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck with the remainder of this.

Alright, I talked to Tom at RTM and although he did seem a bit annoyed he was willing to work with me. He wont be refunding my money, but he offered to give me a store credit or to help me out on a future purchase. So I've requested new tires front and back and he assured me he would help me out with them and have it be an in and out job.

We spoke about communication, and that's what he thinks was the problem. Which I agree with to a certain extent. Sometimes miss communication can really cause a simple issue to become something way bigger that no one intended.

So in hindsight, although I'm still annoyed that it happened and I worry about it happening to others - Tom does seem like a good guy and maybe this was just a fluke. He apologized and agreed that it was a dangerous issue. Ultimately that's what I wanted, an admission of doing something incorrectly and an apology.

i honestly believe it WAS a fluke. He SHOULD have offered you a factory replacement gasket as an option rather than take it upon himself to save you $$ which is what I honestly think he was doing. I also probably think they DID check the bike out before returning it to you. The thing with Gasket Maker is that it may seal for a while, then all of the sudden let go, do to pressure and what not. All of this still does not explain the zip ties, that is just loow. If the zip ties were temporary because he was ordering you new bolts that would be cool in my book but i didnt see that mentioned. It still leaves a lot to be questioned.

I have heard they are really reasonable as far as pricing for labor/parts (better than the stealerships). This should be an example of why you should invest in a shop manual and some hand tools On visit to a stealership would buy these for you and you can have the satisfaction of you did it yourself and it was done THE RIGHT WAY (or as right as you wanted to for all of you half-assers and n(*&r riggers like myself

Indeed, I'm trying my best to learn about the mechanics of bikes as quickly as possible. I've learned a lot the past month
