what kind of oil do you guys use on your bikes
I'm going to change the oil on my R1 by myself for the first time, and I was wondering what type of oil I should get. I have 4 qts of 10w 40 Castrol Synthetic oil that I bought for my 260Z, and I want to use that. But someone told me that oil for bikes is different than oil for cars. Is this true? what happens if I use oil for a car on my R1, will it work?
I believe regular synthetics have some kind of friction modifier that will cause problems with the plates on your clutch since the R1's use a wet clutch. I could be wrong.
I'd just go with Yamalube 20-40 personally. I'm a pretty big fan of synthetics in cars but it just seems like a big waste of money on bikes. I'd rather change my oil more often and use cheap Yamalube than use synthetic and go for extended intervals. I've heard of guys on R1-forum using Rotella-T (Cheap ass diesel engine oil) and putting some huge amount of miles on their bike and not having problems.

Some do... not all. The ones to avoid have the energy saving logo on them... that is what we need to avoid.

i found this article about motorcycle oil Vs automotive oil.
Motorcycle Oils vs. Automotive Oils
It seems to work. I just put that oil in my engine and I'm going to take it for a test ride to feel the gears.
