what kind of oil do you guys use on your bikes
Simply your safe to use what ever you like but stay the fuck away from anything that says "energy conserving" that will toast your clutch as it has a high content of friction modifiers.
As Mike said Rotella nough said.

I posted a bunch of chart of Amsoil VS Other brands (Like 5 brands).
I'm a strong believer in Amsoil.
Here's the thread that discussed oil's

I believe regular synthetics have some kind of friction modifier that will cause problems with the plates on your clutch since the R1's use a wet clutch. I could be wrong.
I'd just go with Yamalube 20-40 personally. I'm a pretty big fan of synthetics in cars but it just seems like a big waste of money on bikes. I'd rather change my oil more often and use cheap Yamalube than use synthetic and go for extended intervals. I've heard of guys on R1-forum using Rotella-T (Cheap ass diesel engine oil) and putting some huge amount of miles on their bike and not having problems.

id recommend using the manufacturer's oil. technically there isn't a way it could damage your bike because they use it on all their bikes anyways.
on my brother zx10, he has always used Kawasaki oil brought from the dealer and and the bike hasnt seen any problems. it can get a lil expensive though, kawa oil is like $7 a quart.

Dont get me started about oils....
But with that said, you shouldnt use synthetic oil in your bike until atleast 2000 miles. Synthetic oil prevents the engine from breaking in. You'll end up having a weak motor which will burn oil, sooner then later.
The molybendnum(sp) in some car oil is what will cause your transmition to slip. It wont do anything to the gears.

Does it affect you that much that some random guy 1500 miles away went and paid his own money for a 1000?
Do we really have to fight over who uses the back brake or not?
Do you have to argue over stupid pointless shit on the Internet?

I have an 06 R1, and whenever I ran synthetic oil it seemed to make a bunch of noise at startup and while running, yamahas seem to make a lot of noise anyway. So what I do is I run half and half, half synthetic and half conventional, usually mobil 1 mixed with valvoline 20w50 motorcycle oil, the R1 Runs great and the noise level is very low compared to what most R1's make. If anyone else has a quiet running R1 id like to know what oil you run? ps I am in no way saying R1's arent a great bike, they just seem like the make more noise then the others, am I wrong?

The weight of the oil would have more to do with quieting it down more then anything.
In my R1 I ran Motul 300V 15w50 But other then that, I really dont know much about R1's.
