God fucking damn these old drivers. Makes me feel unsafe to ride my bike around these parts. I've had all sorts of them pull out in front of me while I was in my car, and I'm sure I will while I'm on my bike.

I don't know anything about this specific incident, but I can tell you that it is not just killing people on bikes that goes un-noticed down here... If you research just about any traffic fatality the person at fault is rarely charged with a serious crime and virtually NEVER does any jail time (unless they have a warrant or something un-related).
In my opinion if you are at fault in an accident with fatalities you should do jail time, period! It doesn't matter if you killed a biker, a pedestrian, another motorist, whatever. It also doesn't matter if you were drunk, eating a bowl of cereal, talking on your cell phone, doing your make-up, changing the radio station, etc. If you kill someone because you were not paying attention while driving, you go to jail. It is the only way people will stop doing everything and anything other than driving while driving. Just my $.02

I agree, however if the victim of the accident was speeding or doing something other than driving while driving, i wouldn't feel like it's right that the other person should have to do time for it. I would hope that if i'm killed in an accident on the bike or in the car and it truly is someone else's fault (i was riding/driving the speed limit and fully concentrating, no cell phone, etc.) i'd hope for my friends and family to make sure the fucker does time ... but in that case i'm pretty sure they'd do time?
