No arguing that the R1 is the sexiest of the liter bikes...
...but it falls a little short on the power.

I like riding the newer R1'a, but personally prefer the GSXR or ZX.

...my 2 cents...

choosing race tires for the street over street tires is the dumbest thing i've ever heard... hope you didnt have an option. Race tires are meant to operate at higher temps, so riding them on the street just makes it cold tear, i just dont understand it. Hope someone didnt lie to you and told you you'll get better grip on the race tires on the street than street tires because unless you have warmers and are doing some spirited riding (N run) you wont even get 1/2 of the potential. Not even taking into concideration of heat cycles. I used to run those tires and hated them, try the cts i heard those were good.

like i stated above it was the only front tire they had. and it seems to work just fine and has never given me any problems. when its time for new tires i'll get 2cts all around.

No doubt they are close.... but haven riden all 4 (incluing the 1000rr) with similar mods, the GSXR & ZXs feel more powerful than thier R1 counterpart... especially down low. THe Honda however seems to come on like a freight train up top.

I agree with you on the low end.. The R1 dosen't have the low end the other bikes do, but I guess the thinking behind that is you're going to be higher up in the RPM range on the track. The power comes on very smooth on the R1 , no surprises at any RPM.

see, i find a HUUUGE flaw in the whole "...i guess at the track...". These bikes AREN'T track bikes (well they are, but usually dont get there), maybe 10% of owners of sportbikes go to the track. They need to build them for street riding and i think they do, its just some people and some manuf choose to play with the power bands differently.
