Don't use wd-40 or any kind of penetrating oil/lube.

my dad just found this stuff by DuPont called pure silicone lubricant-industrial grade...it says on the bottle that you can use it with o-rings&gaskets, chains&cables......do you think this would suffice?

It may or may not be the best lubricant for a chain, but it shouldn't do any damage. You should read the precautions to see if it destroys paint or chrome.

I used the Suzuki chain lube from a bike shop.

ANYTHING is better then nothing. But I recommend Maxima ChainWax in the gold can.

You use WD-40 to clean the chain, let it sit for about ten minutes. Then spray it with water. Let it drip dry then lube it with Chain wax or Chain lube. Let it set in for like an hour....

I have 14K miles on my bike now my chain looks like its new, the sprocket is also in great shape
WFO, had it off last week when I was replacing my tires. Normally clean and wax my chain around 500 - 800 miles or when it looks like it needs cleaning and chain lube. I do it after I ride so the chain is nice and warm, put it on a bike stand let it run in gear as I spray the WD 40 and let in spin a few times. Then I let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then spray it with my presure washer as its running in gear then when the chain looks good I let it sit for a few minutes. Then Spray it with Chain wax or PJ lube. When this is done the bike shifts great and smooth... I just did mine last night..

I would never spray a chain with water after cleaning it with wd40. I simply use maxima or similar wax and just keep adding some every other fill up. My chains last about 20k miles on liter bikes.... I woudl also never spray a chain with wd40, however i do put it on a rag and wipe it onto the chain side plats to make it look pretty again

Why no WD-40?? That is the only lubricant I use on the chain for my dragbike.

I love WD-40...Anyone who has ever used it knows, it cleans like a mother...I use it alot on my bike, I actually just cleaned my chain very thoroughly with it. I typically wash the bike and dry it off as much as possible, then ill get down and clean any area where grease builds up with WD-40 including the chain. Then once it dry's I use Castrol Chain Wax...Just dont be an ass when putting the wax on, because you will get sling...I do this religously...

Cleaning with wd-40 and removing it afterwords is fine. Using it as a lube will destroy your o-rings and bearings. The reason it cleans greasy things so well is because it breaks down petroleum which is not only on your chain, but also in your seals and bearings.
