i have never owned a brand new bike before. all i did was follow what yamaha told me and that was not to go over 6k untill after your break in period. that was untill maybe 430 miles go by and someone tells me i fucked up so then i hauled fucking ass my way to 600 miles and had the bike serviced. is there a way to redo a break in period?

Yeah theres a way to redo the break-in period...rebuild the engine. Follow the service manual, it'll be fine dude. WHo are you gonna listen to, Yamaha (the guys that are warranting your bike), or some joe schmoe off the internet. seriously.... Yes there are different opinions on the ways to break in a new engine, NONE ARE WRONG per se'. Some claim more HP, others claim reliability. Don't worry bout it, follow what the manufacturer says, that isn't the first engine they've put together.

R1 has peaky power because of the stock fuel map. it surges and levels off at 5-6k rpm the it surges back up again at 9 it falls off again. but the top end charge it stout because of the long stroke. i think peak hp is 1500rpm higher then my GSXR1000 (11k rpm)

the R1 gear box is the best feeling quickest shifting gearbox

Breaking in gets seals to seal and rings to seat. The rings wont "blow by" between 1000 - 6000 rpms then all the sudden create a good seat at 7k and above.
Right, I'm not saying you get a HP or Torque boost but what I'm saying is if you don't seal it properly in the beginning by riding at a constant RPM then your power band will drop off at that RPM instead of getting the full amount of HP or Torque out of the bike. Put a bike that was riden home and driven all highway miles for the "break in period" and a bike that was trailered to the track or dyno broken in on a dyno and you will see the difference. Like I said though, I don't want to argue break in methods. Just do your homework and see what you think is best for your application. Somebody said follow the manuf. advice. Not trying to contradict that but have you ever wondered if maybe they say take it easy on the bike so that parts last just long enough to be out of warantee before they break? That's one of the break in rumors that has been floating around for a long time.
