News Release - Motorcycle Thief Gets 21 Years for Violating Probation
TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced that a Hillsborough County man was sentenced to 21 years in prison for violating his felony probation for racketeering. Jon Herlong was sentenced after he tested positive for cocaine and fled, violating terms of the probation he received earlier for his involvement in a large-scale motorcycle theft ring.
An investigation in the late 1990s revealed that Herlong, 34, of Seffner, and as many as 60 co-conspirators operated a theft ring that stole hundreds of motorcycles in the Tampa Bay area. They routinely sold the stolen motorcycles to chop shops, an operation that brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the individuals involved. Herlong was arrested in February 1999 and pled guilty to stealing 46 motorcycles.
"Probation is a privilege and violators should go immediately back to prison," said Crist. "This individual squandered the second chance given to him and must now fully pay his debt to society."
Herlong’s co-defendants were tried and convicted of multiple counts of grand theft, racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering. Most of the individuals involved in the case were sentenced several years ago and are in various stages of serving out their sentences.
Herlong pled guilty in August 2001 to 46 counts of grand theft, one count of racketeering and one count of conspiracy to commit racketeering. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by 12 years of probation on the racketeering charge. After testing positive for cocaine in June 2005, he became a fugitive. The Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted a manhunt, and Herlong was discovered hiding under a bed in a private residence. A K-9 unit apprehended him and returned him to custody.
The 21-year sentence was handed down yesterday by Pinellas County Circuit Judge Timothy Peters. The case was prosecuted by Crist’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.

That's great! I know that guy from R&R Performance. He always brought in parts that he sold to the owner of the shop.

Does it affect you that much that some random guy 1500 miles away went and paid his own money for a 1000?
Do we really have to fight over who uses the back brake or not?
Do you have to argue over stupid pointless shit on the Internet?
