Default buying a bike w/no title? info pls?

ok in the past i bought a bike with no title it also had a lean on it, so i could not do anything with it but ride and not get pulled over. my uncle has a r6 im thinking about buying from him but kinda the same thing it has no title due to the guy he was paying monthly to just up and left, nowhere to be found. so it's sitting here with no title and no lean is there anyway to get a title for it? it has been over 2yrs since anyone has saw or heard from the guy who has the title, any info would be great....

I think you're screwed. You could frame swap it.

You can try getting it re-titled at the tax collectors office, if there are any problems they will tell you exactly how to deal with them - as long as you keep you the bike registered you should be good though - the title really doesn't do a whole lot until it comes time to prove ownership over the vehicle. So basically as long as you keep paying to have the registration renewed, your good homes. : )

your i was thinking about doing a frame swap cause i am getting a rly good price for the r6 ...it would still be cheaper then buying one to do the swap. i realize i cant get it re-titled cuz no one has the title.the guy who has it my uncle was paying him for it they were pretty decent frineds he had a couple more payments and he vanisioned no where to be found and it has been 2years now sence anyone has seen him. i thought about having my friend put a lean on the bike he owns a shop, and i beleave after so many days or what not they get to just keep it if it's not payed is this true? good idea? anyone else have a idea? thank you for your time guys....

mechanics lein. Best way to go from what it sounds like. have to come up with Dummy invoices showing worked performed and parts installed. Invoice needs to be aged around 30 to 45 days to start the process. Have not personally done it but I have heard it is really not that hard or expensive.

You should be able to go to the DMV tag office and do a title search.. just simply say u purchased this and lost the title.. i believe it will be like 35 bucks to do a title search... Once done , and u get a new copy of the title , Just sign the previous owners name on it , considering hes not around anymore... Write your self up a Bill of sale at a low amount to save your self the sales tax , and your done.. Bikes now yours... If it seems a bitch sketchy , thats cause it is , your pulling a fast one on the DMV , but i have recently done it and know its doable...

while you should be able to search... the only problem is since the title would be in either a banks name and or the previous owners name dont you think they would not give it to you.

if this were possible anyone could steal bikes, go to dmv say they lost it and etc etc......
