im sorry im confused, did he leave behind a son or a dog? because that staments says dog and son in it? or was it both?

It was his dog.....he called it "his son"

And kenny is right, especially him and I, weve been through some pretty shitty relationships, theres allways another fish out there in the sea

My bad.... I was reading it as a child that was left behind.... not a dog.
I can not fathom a person purposely taking thier life and leaving behind a child...
