motorcycles do NOT need insurance coverage UNLESS your financial institution requires it or like your friend said, you ride w/o helmet. Look it up on the DHSMV site or in the sticky above.

I think you are confusing liability with health insurance Skinny. You need at least 10k of medical insurance coverage from your employer or elsewhere to ride without a helmet legally.

If you are thinking about riding w/o insurance, do yourself a favor and DON'T.

All coverages except for collision are generally very cheap on most bikes.

even collision isn't bad, it's the damn uninsured motorist that bites you in the ass.

Persons at least 21 years of age may ride a motorcycle without a helmet if they can show proof of medical (health) insurance coverage (Motorcycle Medical Policy card or other forms of health insurance coverage, such as employee group or private health insurance cards) in the amounts of at least $10,000.00 that will pay for their injuries in a crash.
Straight from the HSMV site

Thats acurate...If u have an HMO plan or what not at work , they usually have a deductable rate , as well as a set insured up to amount... I have been pulled so many times on clearwater beach , for raipd lane changes when its hot as balls on a sunday in traffic... i usually strap my lid while on the beach... I have never once been asked for it...But having insurance is a good idea... primarily anti theft considering how many are turning up missing...

If you are riding w/o a lid, you need much more then just 10k of LIFE insurance
