Default Helmet replacement

so i went down this weekend. my helmet hit the ground, but not hard at all. basically there are 2 little paint chips on it - i'm guessing from road debris. it didn't slide on the road or anything, and again, it didn't hit hard.

my question - of course the manufacturer says to replace a helmet anytime it hits. i believe when i got it, the insert said to replace the thing if i so much as dropped it on the ground. what are your guys opinions?

as for me, i'm going to give it a thourough look through, but i doubt i'll be replacing it.

Honestly, I doubt I would replace it either. I seriously believe if a little drop from waist height takes the integrity out of the helmet how much does it really protect your head when it hits the ground at 70mph then repetedly hit the ground over the next 100 yards. I would think as long is there is no hairline fractures on the outer shell you'd be alright, but I really

helemts are made to give. kinda like an air bag, just not as fluffy or comfy, they crush upon impact to reduce the force that is about to meet your skull then your brain

I am alive today because of helmets. i hit the pavement at 100mph from about 6ft in the air then slid and tumbled from turn 8 to turn 9 about 100ft. i never lost conciousness, i saw the whole thing ground, sky, ground, sky, bike wheel, sky, ground. (ICON mainfame not the best but its ok dispite what some may think.)

just remember that helmet has been down, it MIGHT not work properly but it should be fine. it your head so its your decision.

The inside of the helmet is designed to ABSORB energy upon impact. Usually on the inside of the helmet there is somehting that lookss like styrofaom. After so many hits on one area it loses its ability to absorb the energy because that area has already taken what it can. As to the mention of "how much does it really protect your head when it hits the ground at 70mph then repetedly hit the ground over the next 100 yards." I would hate to find out it could take seven hits and the last one I needed was the one I alreeady dropped from my waist. I have abouyt three helmets at my house, rule was if I went down on the street or track I replaced it.

Depending on what brand of helmet it was, many manufacturers will x-ray your helmet free of charge to determine if it is still good after a mild impact. Maybe worth the peace of mind?
