How does my maintenance schedule effect my bike? Jimmy at Kenetic Motorsports just installed a Power Commander and a custom map on my stock 954. The bike made 138 hp to the wheel. My bike was also broken in easy and by the book for the first 600 miles. Go figure.

5 or 6k a year?

if your not going ride it why own it?

any ways.... i think this kid is asking how much it would cost being his only way to get around.

it depends on the bike and what you do with it..... not enough info to answer the question....but i will say sport bikes on soft tires cost more than cars to keep up

Nah, he's using the same oil that his family uses to fry eggrolls in.

Edit - You guys sure spend a lot of money on maintenence. I'm at 23k miles and I'm on the stock drive belt/pulleys, stock primary chains/sprockets, stock clutch, and stock tires still. I change the oil every 5000 miles with Amsoil synthetic, which takes 5 quarts or so. I can pick up a case of Amsoil, which is 12 quarts, for ~$70, and filters are $10 if I buy the fancy chrome ones. I also have to spend $5 on gaskets when I change the oil. I'm about to buy tires, so I'll let you know what those cost, but I'd imagine not very much.

Harsh reality I had to face when I bought the bike.

holy shit!!!! even though you dont ride that much you should still change your oil based on the amount of time it sits in your bike if not the miles. I change oil every 1,500-2,000 miles in the 03 R6, and filter every other time, and every 2,000 miles in the Kawi and filter.

yep we have really soft tires and chains that take a beating to keep up because they are the smallest and lightest that will stay together(i took off a 532 that would last forever and replaced it with a 520 that won't. just because i wanted to)....... as for oil most change it often because it makes shifting smoother(2k-3k ish)... all that = able to be riddin harder and wear out faster and cost more to replace.

wouldn't trade you for dubble what it costs to ride mine thou..... I'd just drive my car, i don't need to think i look cool. i want to enjoy my time on a bike.

Let's see...

This month it's the tranny (R&D Tranny runs between $400 for a basic Race cut to $1300 for a fully built tranny)
Last month it was the clutch and shifter... $2K and change
The month before it was the bottom end... rods, bearings, crank, machine work.... don't ask what that cost...
The month before, it was the top end...
Before that it was the Turbo, the header and the plumbing...

Clutch plates, chains, sprockets, oil and tires seem to be replaced monthly.... sometimes more, sometimes less.

... you get the picture

cecil, you need to get some DSM badges for that bike. and my 50 dollar for oil change comment was geared to not needing to use bike labeled oils. i run a regular auto synthetic blend, spend maybe 10 bucks on oil for 3qts..
