Default Persuading Parents...

Is there anything you can do to convince a parent who thinks a motorcycle is "soooo dangerous" of the contrary? Take them to a shop and have an employee talk to them? Anything? Kinda stuck at this point....

I am guessing you still live at home and you are under 21? For good reason your parents don't want you to have a bike. Did you read the post about someone throwing a glass bottle @ CiviSmkr89? Ckeck out some of
WgsOO23's posts (the one posted on 06-13-2005). Surf the forum here for awhile. Hell, I have been riding for well over 20 years (yeah yeah Iam an old fart like Cecil.I am a whole 36) and there are days I still get the shit scared out of me. Yeah, bikes are fun and chicks dig 'em, but along with that they are dangerous as hell. All the gear in the world isn't going to save your ass if some cotton head decides he wants YOUR lane doing 55.
My point is this....when you are old enough to pay your own bills, then you are old enough to take your own life in your own hands. I have taught my girls the basics of riding a bike, but that doesn't mean I will buy them one.JMHO~Barbie

I understand where your coming from with the dumb ass people but to say the info about being at ur parents house and paying bills is a little crazy IMO. Im under 21 and pay all bills neccessary and still live with my parents. Only reason im with my parents is because some trouble i got into a few years back. But i do have a bike. Mom didnt like the fact about me getting it but i guess she could only say so much. Pops was all for it as long as he could ride it every so often I have been riding harleys since i was 15 and this is my first sport bike.(No comparison i know). I am afraid but love riding. All in all, sit donw with ur parents and try to have a adult to adult conversation with them. Try giving some good points and not "because i want it". Good luck with everything.

It is Very dangerous.

And to be honest I would never sell to someone saying that its not dangerous because you would be breaking their trust when something happens.

and if you are younger than its even more dangerou considering the limited amount of time/experiance you have on the road. the older you get the more seasoned you are.

I waited because rushing into something with inexperiance just ends up with stupid results. Experianced people get hurt allot. So remember that.

BTW i also waited till I was ready mentally to have a bike and became an excellent driver so i could start off as a decent biker.

I had excellent teachers and made it my job to become the best. everytime you get behind a machine, you are a professional, and that is your job, you fail at your job you are then responsible. There are no Accidents. Just failures.

Even though I'm 18, I feel like I'm a good driver and wouldn't be terrible at getting a bike (I know I know everyone would say this). I had a 125 dirtbike for a few years and every time I went riding I would hang with buddies on 250's who had been riding all their life. So as far as control goes I think I wouldn't have too much of a problem but what do I know I haven't ever been on a bike. I know they are dangerous...but the mom thinks that like if you have one you're automatically going to crash and die, and if you have any sort of crash, you're dead. I realize how easy it is to get injured....and shit I'm looking forward to doing a lot more in life than I already have...which is why I would want to get a damn good jacket and helmet to protect myself as much as possible. I was also thinking that since I'm going to be going to cllege soon a bike would be a great way to solve the parking problems that most people talk about.

when I was 18 I can guarantee I was the best then too, But I still waited to where I am at now. I am not one to boast about anything, But that is something that I take pride in.

You forgot to mention pants.

Jeans will slide and last for 8Ft.
competition leathers 1.9 thick last for roughly in track conditions 80ft of sliding.
I think one fellahs story that was just on here he went for 250 ft. I dont remember specs on what he was doing but that gives you something to think about.

Now I am not Completly steering you off considering you are finding out some of the facts and requirements for getting onto a bike. Most people will fight really badly for what they want but remember not to run before walking.

Are you financially prepared for a bike as well?
Helmet - 200-400
Jacket 300
Pants 120
Boots 80+

insurance 160+ a month.

Bike cost.
