Default Serious question about stolen bikes.

What is the best way to prevent a bike from being stolen? Seriously, I mean, a wheel lock yeah, but if you get 3 men to lift that bitch in the back of a truck, then it's gone. An alarm only makes sound, and might alert the owner. But, if you have some big ass men that can lift the bike, and be out of there in a couple minutes before anything can be done. What the hell is there to do, to prevent a(your) bike from being stolen? Putting a chain from the bike tire to a pole wouldn't do much either. Lock cutters are easy to get ahold of. Is it basically based on luck or what?

Don't leave it outside at an apartment.

Ill make it very simple....

If you dont have a garage you are fucked.

If you do. Dont let your "riding buddies" know where you live.

You still arent clear w/ a garage. But you are alot more safe.

That is a good point. You really have to be careful about that one, you can't trust anyone that you just met out riding. Also if you are trying to sell a bike NEVER let the buyer come look at it at your house. They may come back and get it when your not looking.

Yeah, id have to say having a garage would be the biggest theft deterant...
Theres also theft insurance...with Geico you can get liability and theft for a pretty low price. Its $700 a year for my 2004 GSXR1000, and Im 23 years old (no recent tickets).

Do not buy one is the best way, but really.... If people want it they will get it. If you live at an apartment complex get a ground floor apartment and put it in the house otherwise get comprehensive coverage on it at a minimum. Hell I have a garage and still use the neck lock at home and a tire lock

IF you must keep it outside, get an armored cable and cable it to a pole. cover it also. you don't have to be faster than the bear, just faster than the guy next to you.

another words, if you live in an apartment complex and there are three sportbikes sitting with just wheel locks that can be thrown in the back of a van, but yours is chained to a pole, who's bikes are goign to get stolen first? thieves are looking for a quick score most of the time, not necessarily the nicest bike.

You could always rent one of the storage places that are everywhere... you know the orange garage doors and all.

OR find a good friend that lives near you and see if you can store it there.

Best bet... dont get a bike in your complex or if you do cover it real well and like moldy said make in an absolute bitch to steal. If they see a nice bike thatll take 15 minutes to steal and your run of the mill gixxer6 with only a wheel lock chances are they will steal the gixxer. Less possibility of getting caught and easier to sell to squids...

-If you live in Lutz you can always store that bad boy over here. Sounds like you live in the big city though .

Thanks man. I don't even have a bike. I've always gauged interest in getting one though. I would just hate to get it stolen, because it just seems to easy..If I ever do get a bike and move to Lutz. I'll be sure to store it in your garage.

not necessarily true.. my busa had front disk lock, rear disk lock, cocked to the side and a cover on it.. was sitting next to an F4i, Gixxer 600 telefonica, a harley and a yamaha cruiser and none of those were stolen..
