Default Bad Buisness ATP Performance

It all started last summer with my nephews 250R needing rebuild. Word was Mike was the top 250R expert/guru, etc.. The bike was taken there due to the piston seized up and bottom end needed replacing. Work was done, decent price, but quite a while getting the bike back. Worth the wait...the bike runs GREAT!!

So after months of problems with my YFZ450, I decided to sell it, and buy the Hybrid426 (not knowing what I was getting myself into at the time.)
It started out with a small overheating problem that 426's are known for. Due to the great job done on the 250R, I contacted Mike again about finishing some fab work on the 426. I was told that the price would be about $500.00, and my bead locks, and tires that came on the bike. This included finishing fab work, powder coating, disassemble/reassemble bike, more or less ready to run delivery, with the understanding of any hang ups that might come along. That was agreeable to me.

So, the bike was dropped to Mike's house in September, everything was explained in detail what work was to be done( which Mike himself made a list). I also had spoken to him about bringing my nephews dirtbike with me to have 2 cams installed, and valves checked and ajdusted if needed. He told me it would be no problem, and there would be no charge for swapping the cams, due to me paying for the work up front...(that day). Cam swap went smooth, checked valve clearance, and said everything was fine. Before I left that night I ended up being charged $100.00 for the cam swap (which was FREE??)

I was given a time frame of a month to a month and a half for all work on the 426 to be completed, and I was informed about a Z400 frame that was to be done before my bike would be started on. He was good about staying in contact at first,
letting me know how things were going on the bike, but as time went on, and the phone calls started not being answered or
returned. One month turned into 2 months, at this time my frame was at someone elses facility to be stripped because he did not have the proper equipment. When I asked him about the frame ,he had no info for me, only told me when it was expected to be done. When I called about the frame AGAIN, I was told he didn't even know the guys that had the frame..(was a friend of a friend), or even a number to where the other guy could be reached.

Month 3/4 Still no progress, no fab work, by now was only dealing with Scooter or Mike L. (ATP owner), because of Mike W. having an accident, not being able to work on anything supposedly. Was told by Mike L. that Mike W. was depressed and that was his excuse for not ever returning the calls, or working on the bike. Like I said earlier, but now I was dealing with Scooter, and Mike L., just to know WTF was going on with my bike. Scooter offered to start the powder coating (due to Mike W.'s injury), and Mike said he did not trust Scooter to do the work on my bike.(even though in the end Scooter DID end up powder coating alot of the parts.)

Month 5/6..Bike was close to being assembled, and all powder coating finished. Still having problems with the communication. ATP's new shop opens, and more delays for me....
Work is on the move for David's black 450R that was dropped off MONTHS after mine?? Motor work, fabbing, powder coating, all done before mine was completed. After talking to Mike W. about this, he explained that was due to the amount of money that was being spent on that bike. Not to mention the other bike turn around times (in and out)....and I still wait??
I did have to add the swing arm to the list at the last minute, which come to find out was cracked. Meantime...ATP moves again. In this process my plastics got all scratched up, little things here and there, but at this point I just wanted the bike to be done so I could have it back..ANYTHING for it to get finished.
I did make sure to ask Mike W. to KEEP the bike an extra couple of days, to test & jet the bike, to make sure there were NO problems. I was told that he would take the bike to ONF, and ride the hell out of it. At this time I also had to mail Mike W. more money ($200.00) for finishing the bike.

Finally, after 6 months I get my bike back, was dropped of to me by Mike L., with no skidplate installed, no temp gauge, no bar pad, 2 rear studs stripped, which were not like that when the bike was given to him. I accepted the bike anyway.
I started the bike the next day , and the valves sounded like they were out of adjustment. Called Mike W., asked him if he did the valve adjustment, was told he did, but did not have time to take the bike out and ride it. I asked him 3 times if he was 100% sure the valve adjustment was done, was told yes EVERY time. So, I told him I was going to take it to Yamaha to find out what the noise was. After saying this, Mike W. said he would be over next day (Apopka to Brandon) to check valve clearances, but said the bike was OK to ride.
Showed up to ck bike, found that valves were out of spec (SUPRISE!!)...which they shouldn;t have been if they were done like he said they were. That night he also informed me that the timing chain was very "stretched out", and needed replacing.
(In my opinion if someone had the bike for that long, and did the work they SAID they did, then these would have been problems addressed at that time)...not 6 months later, sitting in the drive way. I told him to take the bike again, replace the timing chain, and trouble shoot, why the bike would not start. He told me it was carb problems. (Mind you...I paid over $250.00 to have the carb TOTALLY remaned at Yamaha, before the bike was even given to Mike)...

Took the bike, replaced the chain, but still could not get the bike started. He asked me to UPS him my other 426 carb and CDI. This was within about a 3 week time period, once again, he was hard to reach. I finally got a call that he could not figure out what was wrong with the bike. He asked me if he could pull the jug off the bike, to see if there were compression problems.
(Never did compression ck on the bike.)
Pulled jug, and come to find out lower rod had play , rings were broken, cylinder was scarred, and crank was bad.

(In my opinion, I feel something as severe as this, so much noticeable damage, If the work that was SUPPOSEDLY done on the bike, these problems would have presented at that time, not 6 months later.)

So, I finally get ahold of Mike W.'s wife, and tell her I am coming to pick the bike up to have it ready. ( Mike had yet ANOTHER accident that he couldn't return my calls [smiley=Wacko.gif])
I make the drive 2 hrs, to find my bike in PIECES, but Mike there?? Picked up everything, less skidplate install, rear stud fixed, and temp gauge nowhere to be found(BRAND NEW)...

I sold bad motor, installed new motor, with the carb & CDI that I had UPS'd to Mike. On 1st start of bike, I was not aware (or told) that the idle was tured ALL THE WAY UP, to get an 11,000 RPM start.

My bike is now once again, sitting at another shop for unknown reasons yet, but valve clearances were ck's on intake cam (which Mike installed in dritbike motor), and specs were OFF...SUPRISE AGAIN!!

This post is in no way trying to slander Mike & mike's buisness. I have tried to get ahold of Mike for the problems, and once again, not able to contact. I feel that both Mike's are nice guys, but then again you shouldn't mix the friendship with buisness...

I am VERY upset over the fact that I not only had to wait for many months for my bike, but the kind of service/treatment I got from Mike W. showed his inexperiances in owning/running a buisness. This is all I will say for now, I just though I should get the truth out there for all to know about ATP...

Sounds like you are a glutton for punishment. You let them take it back. If all the fab work is done get the service book for the engine and get it runnig yourself. Then you will not have to pay somebody to do it next time.
