How good was Martin Truex Jr. this season?

For Martin Truex Jr. and his Furniture Row Racing team, this week's awards show celebration was a well-deserved honor for a driver and team that were the class of the field all year long.

Scrounging through the year-end statistical update book reaffirms how good Truex was. Not only did he lead the series in wins (eight), stage wins (19), top five (19) and top-10 finishes (26), he also led in many other categories.

Note: the number eight is being picked up as a smiley face....

Truex was the best when it came to earning playoff points (74), average start (6. and average finish (9.4). For good measure, here's the rest of the categories where Truex ended the year on top

• Average running position (7.205). Kyle Busch was second-best at 8.884.
• Driver rating (116.1). Kyle Busch was second-best at 108.6
• Fastest driver early in run (average rank of 4.54. Kevin Harvick was second-best (5.93.
• Fastest driver late in run (average rank of 4.710). Kyle Busch was second-best (6.156).
• Fastest laps run (1,33. Kyle Busch was second-best (1,129).
• Fastest on restarts (average rank of 5.694). Kyle Larson was second-best (7.889).
• Green flag speed (average rank 3.710). Kyle Larson was second-best (5.429).
• Laps in top 15 (9,47. Chase Elliott was second-best (8,831).
• Laps led (2,253). Kyle Busch was second-best (2,023). Truex and Busch were the only drivers to crack over 2,000 laps led.
• Miles leader (3,05. Kyle Busch was second-best (2,592).

NASCAR CEO Brian France's behavior at awards ceremony creates buzz on social media

France abruptly handed Martin Truex Jr. his NASCAR Cup championship ring before walking off without a handshake. Fans were buzzing on social media Friday about what they called awkward and rude behavior by NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France at Thursday night's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
In a moment shared via GIF by many fans and reporters on Twitter, France abruptly handed Martin Truex Jr. his NASCAR Cup championship ring before walking off without a handshake.

France also drew criticism for his extremely brief introduction of Dale Earnhardt Jr. for recieving the Bill France Award of Excellence, an award named in honor of France's father, the longtime chairman and CEO of NASCAR. Many felt Earnhardt deserved more of a thank you and goodbye after finishing his career as a full-time driver this season.


France has always been a polarizing figure for many NASCAR fans, based in part on the multitude of changes he has ushered in since being named chairman and CEO in 2003. Among the changes France has overseen is the introduction of NASCAR's playoffs, stage racing and new car designs.
For those fans who love to criticize France, Thursday was a very good night.

Did France have to disrespect his own father who built NASCAR by rushing out?

I wish to point out that it is the FANS who buy tickets, which you are also disrespecting.

With other sports, disrespecting the fans has hit them in the wallet. NFL is a glaring example.

Did you have to leave suddenly so you could commit sports suicide?
