How many autocrossers?
All this talk about driving to Ft. Myers has me wondering... just how many active autocrossers are present on this forum? As an autocross organizer in the area, this information is very relevant to me.
Was going to do a poll, but an "add a poll" button didn't slap me in the face when I looked for it. (feel free to slap me in the face with it if it was obvious and I missed it)
Do you autocross?
How often?
How far will you travel?
How much will you pay to enter?
Serious competition or just fun?
Anything other comments?

Did I write that question? English really is my first (only) language.

Yes

As Often as Possible, usually once a month...sometimes twice a month
How far will you travel?
Up to 2 hours.
How much will you pay to enter?
$30 at most.
Serious competition or just fun?
I dislike losing, so basically i'm not having that much fun yet. When and if i ever start winning events consistently, then i'll be having fun. Until then, i will continue to go home unhappy.

Chet's not going to be a happy camper for a while then. Neal & Katie's new SM car is nearly ready. I saw it ~ 2-3 weeks ago.

Those are the ones I'm likely to attend if I can get away with it. Sunriders are keeping me pretty busy lately. As long as I get at least one fix per month, I'm usually okay. Convulsions don't set in until about two months.

I've gotten around a little, though. In the short time I've been here, I've attended a Sunriders driver's school (police instructors), two Sunriders autocrosses, one GCAC Saturday session, one Z-hills PCA event and another Miata club's "funcanna" in Ocala.

FSF events don't normally start until march or april. As I'm sure you're aware, the State Fair is there right now. Essentially, they don't want to give us the parking lots we use during their busy season... understandable all in all, although I think an autox would make a great exhibition at the fair... hmm.. that's actually a good idea... might have to run that past a few people...
We've had a bunch of events at Gainesville Raceway and you've missed every one of them..
It really is a tremendous site and hopefully we'll be having more events there soon. There's a Solo Trials scheduled in early march (8-9). I'm hoping to go to that, but we'll see. That will be 4 straight events for me (GCA, Nat Tour, Pro Solo, Solo Trials) and I think I'd be beat for a while after that. Hopefully we'll see some good news about the future of the Gainesville site. The meeting with the new solo 2 steward is today (actually, i have to leave for it in about an hour ) I think we just need to convince the RE that Gainesville is still capable of breaking even at the very least. That's just a matter of better planning on our part to make sure people know well in advance when the event will be happening.

We're drifting off-topic, but that's okay.
Bad idea unless you have LOTS of community support. Crowd control would be horrendous, you'd need cops, serious barricades, bleachers for the spectators, etc. It could be done, but it would be a disaster without proper planning. And unfortunately, with the exception of classes like BP, CP and EM (and maybe SM2), autocross just isn't very entertaining for the casual "fan" to watch. No exciting wheel-to-wheel, no passing, no awesome crashes, etc.
Gville is in the same category as Ft. Myers for me. A solid two hour drive for an autocross. I still may do it, since I'm getting connected with people in this area who might be going. A road trip like that is always more fun when you have someone going with you.
My other option is to arrange a visit with my Dad in Ocala to coincide with a GIR event. I may try to do that as well.
