High Speed Autox, 25 June @ PBIR
Here is the information on the event that I announced at today's, Sunday, 12 June, Martin Sports Car Club Mini Prix...
If I am back, I am going to try to make this.
Enjoy.
Hello everyone!
SCCA Florida Region would like to extend an invitation to all Central Florida members to attend our high-speed autocross on Saturday, June 25th at Palm Beach International Raceway!
The event will be held on the road course itself and the course will occupy a good portion of the track (yes, the actual road course - not the go-kart track). There will still be some elements with cones like a typical autocross, but due to the type of venue the course will be designed to allow much higher speeds than what we're used to in a parking lot.
All your runs will be timed and trophies will be given out at the end of the event. Lots of seat time and the chance to test the limits of your car at a very unique venue!
The track is only an hour from Fort Lauderdale and a couple of hours from Orlando.
It will be one event you don't want to miss!

Any questions, let me know! Hope to see you there!

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Curious as to what exactly a "high speed autocross" is under the current SCCA rules. Used to be Solo 1, but I believe that's gone away. "High speed" doesn't fit in the current SCCA Solo rules (I just checked). So, is this some sort of track event or time trial? Or is Florida Region just making up rules as they go?
As far as I can tell, it's either a "Solo" (autocross) with SCCA-mandated speeds of low-60's for street cars, or it's a time trial run under the club racing program with a different set of rules, and all competitors are required to be SCCA members.
Calling this a "solo" if it's truly a "high speed" event, is either misleading in some way, or they're breaking their own rules.

Loren,
From what I can tell, what is going on is that these clubs run at small sites where speed is not gained so they are calling the sites where they can get more speed on the course "high speed" events. At the event yesterday, I went no faster than a typical Brooksville or Sebring event. But in comparison to the site where they usually run at - and I think this club runs in a bank parking lot in Ft Lauderdale - they were finally able to put in some solomns and sweepers that couild be taken at a "higher speed" and that came from speaking to the Martin Course designer. All the elements are there but they can put down the speed that we in the Central Region are used to due to having larger sites to work with.

Gotcha, Angela. That makes sense.
Jeff, I'd buy that if they were better at the "action" part. The first thing I did was click the link in Angela's post. It didn't give me any more information. It just told me to log in. Meh.
In the digital age, answers shouldn't be so hard to find.
